After Hamas fired Qassams at Israelis in the Gaza strip in February 2008, the IDF responded back with Operation Hot Winter which ended up killing 112 Palestinians. This left many Palestinians and Muslims horrified and very upset over it, and on March 6, 2008, Alaa Abu Dheim^☪ (Arabic: علاء أبو دهيم, Hebrew: עלא אבו-דהיים), a Palestinian delivery driver living in East Jerusalem, decided to fight back against Israel's actions by doing a reasonable response: killing innocent Israeli yeshiva teenagers at Mercaz HaRav (Hebrew: מרכז הרב - הישיבה המרכזית העולמית). His final score before getting pwned by a pig and an armed student was killing 8 and injuring 11, a fairly decent score.

Background

Alaa was born in 1982 into a Sunni family. He was a deeply religious Muslim. He worked as a delivery driver, even delivering to Mercaz HaRav a few times (even though they deny him ever doing so), which probably helped him with the future shooting as he would be somewhat familiar with the layout of the building. His sister, Iman Abu Dheim, told the old media that Alaa was was obsessed with the ongoing violence happening in Gaza. Operation Hot Winter is what eventually led him to go postal.

The shooting

Alaa arrived at the yeshiva carrying a box that he was pretending to be delivering. The only thing he ended up delivering was bullets from his AK on a few unsuspecting students near the entrance. He shot 5, 3 were killed. He than ran to the library where about 31 students were there studying the Torah. He shot 14 students, 5 were killed, and the rest of the students in the library escaped to another classroom. The pigs finally arrived about 10 minutes later, but did not enter the school because Alaa started shooting at them. 2 minutes later, an IDF officer that was off duty David Shapira^✡ arrived to the yeshiva with an M16, while an armed student named Yitzhak Dadon^✡ positioned himself on top of a roof. After sitting in the library doing nothing for a while, Alaa decided to leave the library. This is when David and Yitzhak starting shooting Alaa, which thankfully killed him, putting an end to the attack.
