A Metaverse is an VR open source network for basement-dwellers with no life, to socialize with another basement-dwellers and earn worthless money to buy fake houses, clothing, pets, etc. It is a place only for the sadest, who want to live life than they dream they could have in virtual world that you spend most your time to distract you from the fact everything is meaningless and you don't have a life. This place doesn't not exist.
The term Metaverse has since been raeped by large corporations to sell you more products too consumer. The Metaverse can literally mean anything that is virtual, MMOs, websites, virtual concerts, games, etc. A lot of the time it is linked to NFTs to help get the crypto-bros interested as nobody else gives a shit.
Some argue that the metaverse is way for the man to control your daily lives. Taking all of your personal information and being able to control anything you do. The metaverse was just designed as a way for companies to generate more money to themselves. The lower class and upper class will now be even more bigger, with cyrpto-bros rigging the system to become richer than Jeff Bazos.
Horizon Worlds

In 2019 Mark Zuckerberg launched Virtual Horizons a rip off of Second Life and for socializing with others with Dreamcast graphics. Due to to it looking like shit, nobody gave a shit about it.
But in 2021, with Metaverse now being thrown around as meaningless buzzword on anything, Zuckerberg came to realization that not only he can get people interested by pretending it's a Metaverse, but now he can have control the daily lives of people.
He changed his companies name from Facebook to Meta, and showed the world what he perceives as the future where he could invade you own privacy and sell advertisements to things that give him jew gold, while being able to do what ever he wants with his game. Unlikely what he expected nobody else gave a shit and even knew what the fuck it was.
By 2022 nobody was playing Horizon Worlds and Meta wasted $700 million on this shit.
