Consensus: AlTheRipper

Wondering if I can get this shitty attack article taken down. This was just written because a fantard of Reitanna-Seishin does not like my friend very much (we're not really sure why, but the person who wrote it likes to harass him), so they wrote this article, attempting to be funny even though this is techinically a shitty attack article. Any feedback would be great. K thnx. --(Hero's Inventory / Call for The Hero!) 17:33, 2 June 2016 (EDT)

AOTN monthly theme

I had an idea, for once. Let's say that for one month all AOTN had a common theme, ie. when it is niggar celebration month, all the ones on the front page are darkies. Serial killer month. There enough of those to make a month, with new ones every fucking day. This didn't have to be all the time, obviously. CobaltCat 15:14, 6 June 2016 (EDT)

Only if we get a cis white straight male month and hipcrime isn't allowed any privs for 30 days. That being said, for the most part I think it'd be too subtle and nobody would get what we were trying to do. Besides, good new articles need to be highlighted regardless of theme. Mike the Great (talk) 23:21, 6 June 2016 (EDT)
That idea is completely insane and impractical. We'd have to ignore topical things that occurred within the month, regardless of their current relevance, if they didn't fit in with an arbitrary theme, only to post them at some unspecified date in the future when no one cares anymore. People new to the site would think we're all about one topic (e.g. we're only about racism and bashing blacks, like in that horrendous example you gave above). The writers would have to write about things that they're either not interested in and/or not good at writing about just to fill space. Worst. Idea. Ever. - Zew0 23:45, 6 June 2016 (EDT)
Yes, because surely there are not enough articles on any theme currently on the wiki to fill an entire month, already. CobaltCat 00:31, 7 June 2016 (EDT)
So, if people aren't interested in serial killers or whatever, we're basically saying: "please don't visit our site for a month, oh, and if you don't like next month's theme either then just stay away for another month on top of that." And if something topical, like Trigglypuff as just a single example, comes up, we're basically saying: "sorry, this is serial killer month, please come back three months later when we're doing SJW month and you've already read about it everywhere else and don't give a shit anymore." - Zew0 01:31, 7 June 2016 (EDT)
Yes, because clearly people only come here from the main page. CobaltCat 01:41, 7 June 2016 (EDT)
Then why is a theme even even desirable? What benefits does it bring? Why is it not better to have topical things, if available, as AOTN on the main page? In fact, why are you even trying to defend this horrible idea other than the fact that it's your horrible idea? - Zew0 02:13, 7 June 2016 (EDT)
Nm, actually. The crats can decide. - Zew0 02:18, 7 June 2016 (EDT)
It isn't a terrible idea, but when a good new article or something is in the news and should be placed on ATON it would bump whatever else was set because of a theme. --Mantequilla (talk) 09:48, 7 June 2016 (EDT)
We would have to make sure that new and topical articles get priority though. --Mantequilla (talk) 09:46, 7 June 2016 (EDT)
And I have no problem with setting the AOTN a month in advance, however they would need to be changed if something came up. --Mantequilla (talk) 09:51, 7 June 2016 (EDT)
Yeah, obviously. But it could replace some of that "Fuck, no AOTN today again". CobaltCat 10:16, 7 June 2016 (EDT)
I think the idea of it being a backup plan rather than the active proposal would be more suitable. (talk) 10:29, 7 June 2016 (EDT)

Brock Turner's victim: does the Internet have any balls left?

Does anyone remember the glory days of the internet, when anything that could be said, someone was saying? Yet nowadays the Brock Turner case is in the news, and what is missing? Racy photos of the victim. Dox. Hell, even her name. I mean seriously, what the fuck is wrong with the internet? This isn't the internet your granddaddy used, I can tell you that. There have to have been people in court, people who have accessed court documents that don't have black redactions all over them like they were declassified by the CIA. Are there communities of free-thinkers who still talk about such stuff anywhere in the world? Wnt 19:58, 11 June 2016 (EDT)

groups.google.com used to allow searching Usenet messages, but now i don't see any way to filter out their "forums" anymore. High Score Future Proofing

Now, the high score has recently had a surge, because of a brave man, and now many of the other top shooters ranking is fake and gay. I was wondering if a template could be made, so we didn't have to update every single fucking page every time. Only the template and the high score page itself. CobaltCat 07:03, 27 June 2016 (EDT)

I mean it's pretty common practice to use subspace templates and transclude them, even necessary for long enough articles. If it's used across multiple articles it deserves a template. Mike the Great (talk) 03:03, 29 June 2016 (EDT)
Potentially expand it to top 30 instead of 25? AlGore 23:34, 28 June 2016 (EDT)

Yo dawg, I heard you like templates, so here is a template in a template

On many articles there is a bit of template overload. Many of these are completely redundant. So I thought long and hard about dicks, and then short about making templates in templates. Like X is a subsection of Y. Like this for instance:

Souls Series

Core series

Spin-offs
Bloodborne

Would this work? CobaltCat 16:30, 18 July 2016 (EDT)

the solution to too many templates is more templates to put the templates in? Also that one is super confusing. Mike the Great (talk) 21:26, 18 July 2016 (EDT)
I was thinking we actually need more templates. like for BLM, activists, cop killers etc. --Mantequilla (talk) 17:38, 18 July 2016 (EDT)
Well, I think we need more templates, but we don't need 10 on each page. Like page that have BLM always have black people and SocJus. Some of those are superfluous, but we still need a way for people to navigate. We could perhaps do more portals? CobaltCat 17:54, 18 July 2016 (EDT)
I like the idea but the execution seemed off, with the gaming portal template popping out of a Souls template. What about a collapsing box with a user defined label in which to place templates that can be feasibly linked together? Something like this, roughly.
NIGGOTRY (collapsing container with templates inside, user defined title, maybe user defined image)
BlackLivesMatter (series template)
Cop Killers (series template)
Welfare (series template)
I'm not opposed to the idea of stuffing templates inside other templates, but if that's what we're going to do, the system needs to be flexible to meet the demands of individual articles. —  VX  01:39, 21 July 2016 (EDT)

AOTN every day?

  • Just a thought but... should we maybe start updating the AOTN every day? Or maybe even have several trending stories on the front page at any given time? I feel our turnover rate is too slow and it's preventing us from maximizing out readership. We put one article on the front page every two days, so when several noteworthy events happen consecutively, even if we place the articles on all of them on the main page in rapid succession, it's still sometimes a week or more before the last of them is in the spotlight, and by that time everyone has lost interest.
This is why I originally suggested us having a "Trending" list on the front page. But I fear this is still not enough. Perhaps we should keep one AOTN per two days, but underneath it have "Other Trending Stories" with three or four little boxes, each with just the hyperlinked title of the article, a small related picture to the left of it and a hastily thrown together half paragraph about it or what the most recent event regarding it has been that made us feature it.
The only real problem I can foresee with this idea is that we're all too lazy to update it regularly so unless one of you tech nerds can find a way to automate part of the process this might not be worth doing anyway... thoughts? oddguy 16:40, 22 July 2016 (EDT)
I don't see us having an influx of good or relevant articles enough to do this. I've had to AOTN very old articles because there was nothing to feature. —  VX  19:41, 22 July 2016 (EDT)
  • I disagree. First of all, the AOTN isn't reserved for just new articles. For example, the other day Alex Jones stormed the TYT studio and got spat on, so I featured TYT, but by the time it fronts something else will be the hot new thing. That goes double if I also want to feature Alex Jones as well. Paul Joseph Watson is a great new article, and we also have a new article about the Munich Massacre which should be the AOTN RIGHT NOW when it's most relevant, but putting it there will require bumping Fembusters/Leslie Jones' Twitter Meltdown that's also relevant right now, as well as moving around every other article that's on the list already which will be like 30 minutes worth of work. We still haven't featured Hillary Clinton even though she's the fucking democratic nominee but for some reason some retard keeps flooding the list with age old articles about serial killers like Anders Behring Breivik and Elliot Rodger as well as shitty generic articles like School Shooter and Serial Killer over and over and over again instead of any recent content. We are constantly racing against the clock to put current events on the front page, but end up featuring week old, stale topics we couldn't get to last time instead, while moving his week's big dramas to a week after people have moved on and so the cycle repeats again. All because we only article in the spotlight once every two days.
If we want to increase traffic and efficiently cover recent events when anyone still cares about them, we need to rethink our front page and AOTN system. oddguy 10:35, 23 July 2016 (EDT)
The 1 article for 2 day format works best. It brings in enough viewers to bump the featured article up as one of the most popular for a few weeks. There's always a few great articles made every month and there is nothing wrong with featuring older lulzy articles, even if they have a fuckload of hits. AlGore 05:21, 23 July 2016 (EDT)
  • I think we're putting the carriage before the horses, artificially drawing attention to the article on the front page and going "look how popular it is!" when we should be focusing on thing that people are already interested in to maximize views before they lose their appeal. oddguy 10:35, 23 July 2016 (EDT)
As one of the only people who actually adds the AOTN I give a firm no to this. Two days is just fine as it is. - Zew0 09:02, 23 July 2016 (EDT)
  • That's why I asked if this can be partially automated or is even worth the effort. oddguy 10:35, 23 July 2016 (EDT)
I don't mind really. I just look for new or trending pages. In my opinion it's good to have two days to give people a chance to see the site and hopefully show up on a Google search. - Zew0 12:58, 23 July 2016 (EDT)
How about this for a compromise: double features. It's more exposure for more articles over more time. If there isn't a second article worth featuring, stick with one. If a story develops while there is one article featured, feature a second one. Compared to a daily AOTN, it's much less work for arguably better results. I don't remember how this works in terms of markup, but there are examples here somewhere. Thoughts? —  VX  01:43, 27 July 2016 (EDT)
I can vouch for this if it's done right, but the design of the main page will need to be accounted for. AlGore 02:48, 27 July 2016 (EDT)
  • Yeah, we can stand to have more double features, although that's still not maximizing views which I feel is a wasted opportunity. oddguy 14:09, 27 July 2016 (EDT)

Are you a bad enough dude to rewrite Chris-chan's article from scratch?

Chris-chan is one of our most popular pages but the article itself is jumbled unintelligible crap. It's out of order and reads like it was written by a pack of rabid 12 year olds. Can someone who is actually a good writer and editor take it upon themselves to fix this page. Rewrite it in a subpage and try to make it so it is easily followable and understandable to someone who has never heard of Chris-chan before, because for a lot of people that page is their first introduction to him. --Mantequilla (talk) 03:01, 25 July 2016 (EDT)

It probably needs a navigation menu, as there is a lot of different shit. I would get on it, but I am not home before Wednesday. Also, I am shit writer, but I am autistic enough to make the navigation template. CobaltCat 03:33, 25 July 2016 (EDT)
It has a navigation menu. It needs a rewrite. --Mantequilla (talk) 03:36, 25 July 2016 (EDT)
Well, I'll be darned. The internet here is shit, and the page reads so slowly. Took like 90 seconds to load. But that probably just means that the subpages need expanding and a rewrite as well. CobaltCat 04:04, 25 July 2016 (EDT)
Not worried about the subpages right now. We just need a straight forward article explaining basically all the shit it explains right now but rewritten so it is actually readable, informational and easy to follow for newbs who know nothing about him. --Mantequilla (talk) 15:17, 25 July 2016 (EDT)
I thought jumbled unintelligible crap was was part of ED's charm, like a Pink Floyd album or Wikipedia. Mike the Great (talk) 18:02, 25 July 2016 (EDT)
I'll give it a go. It has got to be easier than trying to rewrite Paul Joseph Watson (still working on that). - Zew0 00:41, 29 July 2016 (EDT)
Well I am organizing the shit that is already there. I think most of the needs to be purged and then completely rewritten. It is too much of a clusterfuck. There is almost zero information about his most important things, like Sonichu and transness. So I am putting shit into their subpages, so they can be brought back if needed. CobaltCat 10:15, 29 July 2016 (EDT)
Someone should make a project page with a timeline of events and a list of things that need to be done, what goes where etc. Lets try to get this shit organized. --Mantequilla (talk) 11:01, 29 July 2016 (EDT)
