Johnny Rebel

Born Clifford Joseph Trahan in 1938, Johnny Rebel's ballads of the South have become a smash hit on YouTube following his return to the musical scene, spurred on by the events of 9/11. His rockabilly repertoire covers a wide variety of topics, ranging from coons to jigaboos, and anything you might expect in between.

It is assumed that Johnny Rebel was the inspiration for Dave Chappelle's famous black white supremacist skit, since Trahan has never been photographed or made a public appearance. While there are several supposed pictures of him floating around the tubes, Rebel vehemently denies the intended depiction.

Rebel won the Nobel Prize for Racism in 1975, "Primarily in appreciation of his fruitful and outstanding musical compositions that frequently voice sympathy for Jim Crow-era segregation and the Ku Klux Klan, with special mention of "In Coon Town", "Who Likes a Nigger?", "Nigger Hatin' Me", "Some Niggers Never Die (They Just Smell That Way)", and "Move Them Niggers North."

Predictably, Trahan's most ardent fans fall into one of two categories: enthusiastic and overjoyed white folks and offended antique farm equipment.
