Ed Balls

The man. The myth. The Ed. The Balls.

Ed Balls is a British politician in the Labour Party, who is apparently no stranger to controversy after getting caught red handed trying to usurp power like a typical American or European politician.

He's also somewhat of a minor Twitter celebrity, or an enigma of social media, depending on how you interpret the following meta-tweet.

The tweet that started it all

Originally tweeted on April 28th, 2011, it has since become somewhat of a holiday on Twitter as of 2013. It's possible that Mr. Balls was trying to search for tweets mentioning his name without directly @mentioning his handle, but ended up tweeting his own name and thus creating a legend in the process, yet no one really knows why he tweeted his own name or why it became so popular.

As of this writing, the tweet itself has 20,969 retweets and 8,475 favorites.

This tweet doesn't seem to be a forced meme since Ed Balls reacts against it and he's clearly too stupid to just delete the tweet and move on. All we know is that he has been immortalized as Ed Balls.
