The Ebola virus is named after the Ebola River in the Democratic Republic of Congo where it was discovered by scientists. Outbreaks are common in remote areas of Africa where living conditions are unsanitary and people don't have access to running water. People can contract the virus from contact with animals or persons who have been infected or by eating bushmeat, the meat of animals caught in the bush. Desperate poachers will catch an animal that is clearly sick and pass its meat off as pork or beef at the local market.
Since people often mistake the symptoms of an Ebola virus infection with other diseases, they won't seek treatment, assuming that any is available in their remote village. Once infected you can enjoy a much needed vacation complete with vomiting, diarrhea, liver and kidney failure, along with possible internal and external bleeding. The chances that someone who's contracted the Ebola virus will never have to work again are between 80-90 percent.
