As with most fanfics, crossover exist as the result of fanfic writers attempting to live out their [[fantasies]] through fiction. These writers want to experience a world where fictional universes collide, and they want to take credit for putting those fantasies on paper.

A very rare occasion, which is thankfully restricted mostly to fanfiction, has emerged, known as the '''Crossover Crisis'''. This is when a crossover is done incorrectly, and actually fucks-up the canon, and instead of being an amusing read, it just turns into an out-of-place disaster that absolutely ruins the rest of what is otherwise a good (or at least decent) fanfiction. One of the most famous examples is [[My Immortal]], which has two examples of this, making an already absolutely shite fanfiction an atrocious abomination if one observes it. And unfortunately, it is slowly catching one.
