D˃E˃A˃T˃H˃M˃E˃T˃A˃L

D˃E˃A˃T˃H˃M˃E˃T˃A˃L is an indie rock album by British band Panchiko discovered on /mu/. It initially gained popularity being an early web instance of “muh lost media”, before being recovered by the usual suspect of autism-fueled Redditors. You might've also heard about it through shitty YouTube video-essays. The band members are huge otakufags; This explains why their name is a misspelling of the Japanese gambling machines, and the album cover for D˃E˃A˃T˃H˃M˃E˃T˃A˃L is actually swiped panel from some obscure manga.

Lost Media Saga
The original album (technically an EP) was originally released on June 18th, 2000. Due to it being so uniquely crazy and ahead-of-its’-time (or more likely because the music was shit) the album failed. It could also be due to the EP/album being limited to only 30 copies being pressed.

In 2016, an Anon on 4chan’s /mu/ visited a thrift store and found the album there. He would make a thread asking what it was because he couldn't find anything about it online. In the thread this Anon shared pics and uploaded a rip of the CD. After this, Redditors and Discordfags (of all people) found it and started the usual autism-hunt to find it.
TLDR, a barcode would be the way they found it.
After obsessively searching through the Facebooks of people living in Nottingham they found the lead singer’s account and told him about how his shitty high-school band got popular on the Internets. This would prompt a reunion of the band, with them putting out new music and touring. DUDE WE GOT THE BAND BACK TOGETHERR!!!!1!!!
Music
Despite the title, the album is not in fact Death Metal, but rather just boring indie radio fodder. But this was different guis!! This particular indie slop had just the right amount of catchy loops to get big on TikTok, and the right amount of lol so randum XD lyrics to try to appeal to /mu/.
The ladder was accomplished, but not without several posters on /mu/ pointing out how the entire saga might be nothing more then a promotion or publicity stunt. Reminder, there was an entire search team looking for this.
Fake?

Q: Is the whole story fake?
A: I dunno lol
There's a lot of things pointing to this being a cringe publicity stunt. For example, when the supposed thrift store was contacted they had no records of the album ever being in their storage. Also super-sus is the quick timing of the band releasing official merchandise. It's up to you if you want to be a cynical cunt about it, or believe the feel-good happy ending.
