walruse
Walruse is yet another shitty meme that started on 4chan's [s4s] board in late 2013, (
November at earliest.) The concept is that one "ruses" a poster in the thread, and replies with the image, telling them "you've been wal-rused." Hilarious, right?
It is a well-known favorite meme of 4chan's mods.
Origins
As is the case with most "ironically" crappy memes created on [s4s], a board dedicated to "ironic" shitposting, a picture was posted with the name of it, and others replied with the name. Once the name had been accepted, it spread to other boards, where it gained precedence. It is now commonly used as an alternative dubs checker to Batman
As you can basically force any new meme into the board simply by posting the image and commenting "le new ebin meme xdxd", the spread of walruse was not exactly a heroic deed. But seeing that /s4s/ is the closest thing 4chan can possibly have to a random board, perhaps be should all embrace this wonderful and original piece of culture
