The Sisters of Mercy are a traditional gothrock group. Formed by band leader Andrew Eldritch, the band has gone through multiple line-ups over the years, mostly because- similar to the Misfits - everyone fucks off after getting sick of grampy Andrew's shit! As of 2017, the band only tours. The line-ups have changed so much over the years, in fact, that some argue that they are basically an "in name only" band that tours to line Andrew Eldritch's pockets.
They are considered one of the original bands of the goth "movement," along with Siouxsie and the Banshees, The Cure and The Mission UK. Similar to "one-hit-wonder" Chumbawamba, they were formed in the early '80s in the wussy country of Englandistan. (Makes you think, doesn't it?)
In 1993 they stopped putting out new material/albums and threw a bitchfit against their label. They have not released new albums since. Their last studio LP came out nearly 30 years ago - 1990. Also, each LP had a different band line-up; the only members in common were founding leader Andrew Eldritch and a drum machine named "Doktor Avalanche." Sad!
