Asphyxiaphilia, also known as breath control, breath play, erotic asphyxiation, and "that's it, baby, choke the shit out of me" is a popular fetish in the world of sexual deviants, found mainly in men and the BDSM community. Unlike the practice of autoerotic asphyxiation, the submissive freaks who are into this sporty brand of lust are unable to play their oxygen-depriving games solo, and must rely on another person to entertain their suicidal sexual needs, although said person can sometimes be substituted for various items such as balloons, condoms, swimming caps, diving masks, plastic bags, nose clips, and duct tape.
The only difference in this case is that you aren't tightening anything around your own neck, you're covering your nose and mouth or begging someone else to smother and choke you. Either way, you're a psychotic moron for getting a thrill out of suffocating yourself or allowing someone to cut off your air supply for as long as, and sometimes longer, than you can stand.
You'll also notice that this article isn't about a deviantARTist, a social justice warrior, or a feminist getting attention from GamerGate, and despite it's internet relevancy, is likely going to be regarded as boring and not traffic-worthy as a result. It may generate a little interest, but hey, don't hold your breath.
What is Air?
Studies have shown that oxygen is the most vital thing necessary to human survival, and as a result, experts have classified asphyxiaphiliacs as the dumbest and most suicidal forms of life when it comes to the world of paraphilias. Your brain is programmed to instinctively try to force you to breathe when it's out of desperately-needed air, but you have the free will to be stupid and continue starving it for oxygen. There have been plenty of cases of people dying from exploring this fetish by pushing it over the edge, but the partner who accidentally suffocated them to death is never charged with murder since they're doing society a favor by removing a useless freak from it who was likely to die alone anyway.

Misusing Objects
As you'd guess, most people who get off on killing their brain cells don't have any friends, and instead have to resort to using objects to seal off their airways. A lot of it is swimming gear, such as stretching a swimcap completely over the face to prevent breathing, but others are into what's called "re-breathing," where you breathe the same air into a balloon, bag, mask, or a condom until it runs out of usable oxygen, and then you breathe into it some more.
