Mario Fan Games Galaxy, or just MFGG, is a website that is to Super Mario Bros. as My Immortal is to Harry Potter. It is where 13-year old boys upload their amazing Mario fan games, sprites, tutorials, and music followed by screaming at each other in the forums. MFGGers can also write reviews of these fan games and score them on a scale of 1 to 10, which got us thinking: why don't we review MFGG ourselves?

The Mainsite

An ordinary Mario fan game.

This is where all the user-created content is uploaded. The mainsite software has a clusterfuck of bugs in it, which have been present for years because almost everyone on the staff is too lazy to learn PHP, and those who aren't are too lazy to finish what they start. Expect averaged review scores to be anything but average and the update history to never update. You might even get an averaged review score despite not having gotten any reviews at all! The post form can also be hacked to submit scores like 1718/10, -2784/10, and Tubgirl/Lemon Party.

Mainsite submissions come in several categories: Games, Sprites, How-Tos, Reviews, Music, and Miscellaneous. How-Tos are Game Maker or Clickteam source files which either hold your hand every step of the way or are utterly incomprehensible. Either way, people who download these How-Tos will do nothing except make minor changes and upload it as if it was something original.

In this site, reviews are failed essay assignments for remedial English. They will often contain one to two sentences per content category if the writer is feeling particularly diligent, but no more. They take zero effort to write and can be accepted even if they have blatant grammar mistakes.

"Oh, no! People are saying BAD THINGS about my stuff!"

Quality Control

Is a lie. There is no such thing as quality control on MFGG. Nonetheless, there are some staff members who review submissions before they are made public on the mainsite, but this only serves to prevent lulz as only Rule 34, blatant theft, and total garbage are rejected. Nonetheless, there is still much lulz to be had if you can get a troll game past this pseudo-QC, as everyone who plays it will whine about Quality Control not doing their job. If only they knew.

If your submission is actually legitimate and has been rejected, you have failed at the most basic of tasks, and should be greatly ashamed. Nonetheless, most Mfags will do the bare minimum of effort to get it accepted or respond with massive butthurt.

Given its bug-ridden status, worthless staff, and general immaturity of its users, we give the mainsite a 2/10.

The Forums

The forums is where the stupidity of individual members is on full display. The forum staff is apathetic as fuck and will only ban for the most blatant of offenses. With a little subtlety, this makes the forums easy to troll, and there are many inviting targets for such.

Forum Facts

  • Moderators are usually too apathetic to ban rule-breakers on sight, so they instead give "warn points," which do absolutely nothing except take away Happy Hearts until you're at almost half your warn limit.
  • MFGGers will always fall for troll bait, as well as other kinds of bait.
  • Happy Heart badges are awarded for having enough posts and being "good" for so many months. They are completely worthless because the only requirements are to have enough posts and to not post anything blatantly stupid. Almost everyone has them.
  • Super Reviewer badges are also completely useless because most reviews are shit--the badge is awarded for writing lots of reviews, not good reviews.

Notable Boards

Your average MFGG art, courtesy of Sloshy.
  • Development Showcase: Where people show off their shit without worrying about the quote-unquote "Quality Control". Also the place where children will bitch about their games not being accepted when it is total shit even by the QC's standards. Unfinished demos and non-Mario games are commonly seen here.
  • The Arts Board: The place where children will bitch about their sprites not being accepted, as well as being a forum-based equivalent to DeviantArt. As with any art community, expect Unwarranted Self-Importance and whining at any criticism, no matter how helpful.
  • Pointless Post Palace: The epitome of unfunny, with posts that made even less sense than Illogicopedia. The entire board was full of brainless posting that made even Chinese spambots seem smart. Eventually, even the MFGG staff got sick of how utterly stupid MFGGers were being and closed it down.
  • Casual Conversation Castle: PPP 2.0, which tried to be less stupid than the PPP and failed hard.
  • The Lounge: PPP 3.0! Hey, maybe if we try to make casual forums enough times, one of them will eventually work out!
  • Submit-It: A forum that existed for handling submissions when the mainsite became self-aware and decided to stop eating everyone's shit. Now that it has been beaten into submission, this board has been closed down.

Special Events

A typical Secret Santa gift.

Like some other internet communities, MFGG has a number of annual holiday events.

  • MFGG Awards: An event where people vote on the best users and fan games of the year. If you're Thunder Dragon, you'll automatically win every relevant category regardless of merit as the community collectively sucks your cock because HOLY SHIT THE FOUNDER MADE SOMETHING.
  • April Fools: Typically involves fucking up the forum themes, screwing with the swear filter, and/or temporarily opening the Pointless Post Palace. There might be a few tricks here and there, but the true spirit of April Fools is lacking.
  • Mindfuck Puzzles (Easter): An Easter event that is everything like a real Easter egg hunt. Instead of hunting for eggs, the eggs are clearly stowed away in obvious locations. To get these eggs, one must solve logic puzzles originally conceived by aliens from outside the solar system.
  • Halloween: Varies from year to year, which gives this event a little more variety than other holiday events. It is known for bad writing and not being scary at all. In particular, the 2015 event had an unbeatable, yet pretentious Phanto who tried to intimidate members with red Papyrus text before magically killing everyone, then gave up like a pussy because all the dead souls were too loud.
  • Secret Santa (Christmas): Where all the MFGGers give gifts to each other. Your gift giver and your gift receiver are completely random, and there is no quality control--anything you get will be total shit, and there is nothing you can do about it.
This is better than every Halloween event.

Your average everyday MFGGer Quotes

Organized by members in alphabetical order. Some of the best stuff is inaccessible because mods love to hide and delete posts. Because the kiddies can't be shamed by their worst shitposts, they learn absolutely nothing and come back to post moar.

I've done the level is ready. I have no problems in my hack. What you find on the level?

The game is rated 3.1 out of 10, which means that I need to improve this game 69%, but do you HONESTLY believe that 69% of this game is missing?

That entire post is pure garbage that adds absolutely nothing to this discussion, I don't even know which part of it to pick apart so I won't bother at all other than to say move along.

Game Maker, GameMaker: Studio, the Clickteam programs, and Unity3D are all proprietary (non-libre) and, therefore, should not be used. Please consider libre replacements

The point I’m trying to make is that people need to be less truthful when making Reviews on MFGG.

—QuoteTheBlueKirby missing the entire point of reviews, mainsite.

Hello, everyone. It’s nice to once again see all of you. My friend Rachel the yoshi girl is very hungry, and so the sooner I create her engine, the sooner she can eat up some of those delicious koopas and goombas. Without your help, she may even be driven to resort to swallowing me before too long.

I've already reported three of Mit's comments for uncensored harsh language (two "fudge"s and a "shoot", if you catch my drift). If he keeps it up, I'll continue to report him until the staff mutes him.

It's upside down, right? Wrong. It actually says Xob Yot. After all, who writes "toy box" on their toy box anyway?

WHY DID I PUT A 1MB IMAGE IN MY SIG? AND WHY DO I NOT REALISE I'LL BE BANNED FOR MONTHS ON END IF I EVEN THINK OF DOING SUCH A MIND-BLOWINGLY STUPID THING AGAIN? WHY AM I EVEN HERE?

Trasher fixing someone's signature

There is a clear bias going on here. There is practically an army of people ready to jump on Soopa for literally every comment he posts on these Forums. You're on the Skype group; you know that is no exaggeration. However much he progresses as an artist is effectively irrelevant here, because based on the comments I've read on pretty much every art thread he's posted in this sub-forum, the oppression, and it is an oppression, is far more interested in dog-piling him at once and badgering him if he tries to back out than actually giving fair and balanced critiscm. If that were not the case, the resulting objective perspective would be incapable of reading his OP with such a circumstantially-skewed tone.

Don't you dare hate anime!

—Yuudachi, forums.

Despite the MFGG community lasting so long, it is full of both children and adults who seem to think they know everything and that they run the place. Thus, we have given the forums a 3/10.

The Wiki

MFGG has a wiki which consists entirely of MFGGers writing pages about themselves and their creations while vandalizing everything else. Nothing is ever sourced, making it impossible to tell which pages are factual and which are garbage. Nonetheless, it is the place where MFGG history is recorded, and there is the occasional page that is full of lulz.

A History of MFGG Lulz

  • In April 2006, Mugenmidget got help from a couple of other MFGGers and took advantage of Flash and meta tags not being blocked in posts to redirect MFGGers to a fake login page. Much lulz was had as Mugen accessed users' accounts and vandalized the hell out of them. The mods were utterly clueless as to who was breaking into everyone's accounts until Draco turned against the lulz and tattled.
  • "The Great Mistake", as they call it, happened in February 2008 when then-administrator Jas decided it was a good idea to give infamous users Cutman and Biddy admin powers and notified them of such. Predictably to everyone but Jas, Cutman logged in, Deleted everything in sight, and took over the forums. Sadly, Cutman was not vigilant, and another admin was able to strip his power--but the damage was done, with the forums losing one month of posts and Jas's reputation ruined.
  • After getting caught evading a mute on the mainsite in 2015, LooneyTunerIan thought it was a great idea to make a "stamp" expressing his hatred of MFG and upload it to the wiki. Other MFGGers got a hold of it and proceeded to troll the hell out of him by using it ironically in their forum signatures, proving that even aspies can do it for the lulz. Rather than man the fuck up and act his age, Ian took to vandalizing the wiki until smashed by the banhammer.

The wiki, while being flawed, is nonetheless informational and has its own records of lulz that happened in the past. We give the wiki a 5/10.

Unofficial Shit

MFGGers themselves have started some unofficial sub-communities, which are always doomed to failure one way or another.

The MFGG Skype Group

The Skype group has gone through a series of incarnations, mainly because every MFGGer who gains authority in a Skype group is even more chickenshit than the MFGG staff. For one thing, the forum staff can keep a community running for years, while the life span of Skype chats can be measured in months. Skype chats generally die due to becoming live Pointless Post Palaces (i.e. shitposting, drama, and other various forms of cancer), motivating a misguided individual to make a new one. Everyone joins this new chat and the cycle continues.

In August 2015, a new Skype chat was created by Syaxamaphone with the new restriction that new users had to be approved by admins. While this was intended to keep stupid people out, this has failed because MFGG is a community of retards, and instead the Skype chat has turned into a clique of retards looking down on other retards, with Syaxamaphone doing absolutely nothing about it. In effect, this makes this Skype chat just as bullshit as all the others.

Oh look, I hacked the mainsite's review form! I rate this Tubgirl/Lemon Party!

MFGG IRC

An IRC channel on EsperNet created when Cap'n Coconuts got butthurt over someone insulting his friend. In a desperate attempt to make it nothing like the Skype group, CC went full commie and made it free for every social reject that wasn't banned from the entirety of MFGG to join. Despite giving op permissions to MFGG staff, CC still has absolute power and could flip the fuck out at any moment like he has done to every MFGGer ever.

We know without a shout of a doubt that it will become just another Pointless Post Palace, despite having never been there. Since we are older than the typical MFGGer, we know everything and are never wrong. 1/10.

MFGG'S Greatest

MFGG's Greatest, or MFGG's Greatest Hits: The "Best" Quotes from MFGG, is a Tumblr page run by Mit, Cam, and Colton for the sole purpose of laughing at other people in the MFGG community. While some lulz can be gained from these archives, Mit has chosen not to name and shame, and so the sources of most submissions are "anonymous" as long as everyone else is too stupid or lazy to Google it, backread Skype history, or log anything at all in IRC. In fact, we at ED decided to amuse ourselves by Googling this shit and making a partial list. If you are in the Hall of Shame, please express your grievances to the moderators above!

Totally anonymous, amirite?

While MFGG's Greatest has pointed us to some lulz, it comes with the chickenshit policy of not blaming and shaming that can be circumvented in your sleep. In light of this, we give it a 2/10.
