Semi-protection of all series templates
I always found it annoying on ed.com that I couldn't edit a series template to add a page that needed to be included. A few users have had that problem here, so I am proposing we semi-protect all series templates (except portals of course). What do you guys think? 00:26, 3 August 2011 (UTC)

about portals (caretakers please read)
I don't know where the misconception that all portals are to be full-protected came from, but they shouldn't be. Being a caretaker does not mean that you are the owner of said portal. Yes you change the featured article, and yes you can revert people who try to change it for you, however your main job is to keep the portal clean because of noobs going in and changing shit and making a mess. Portals can be semi-protected if you want, but not full protected. If they are full protected it prevents people from going in and adding relevant content. Everyone who's portal is full protected (including me probably, I'm not a saint obviously) please change the protection level to semi or none as soon as you read this, thanks.--zaiger (talk) 01:34, 3 August 2011 (UTC)
- The portals themselves should be fully protected, because the layout need not be fucked with. However, the departments should be left unprotected. 01:43, 3 August 2011 (UTC)
- Well the caretaker can see if someone has come in and changed anything and then revert. Let's just see how it works, if it creates excess vandalism then we can protect the portal itself and leave the department's unlocked. Who knows, someone might come in and make the layout better. --zaiger (talk) 01:48, 3 August 2011 (UTC)

Missouri bans Student-Teacher relationships via social networks
Jane Cunningham (R-MO) once again shows how much her sagging vaginal lips can flap in the breeze by banning students and teachers from privately chatting on Facebook and Twitter. The Missouri state legislature passed a bill that she sponsored. So, if you have a hot teacher who you need to ask a private question, you can't do it online. You'll have to do it the old fashion way: Write a note. (Blasphemy!) --SadMonkey 03:27, 3 August 2011 (UTC)

S&P: Fuck it!
After all that shit we went threw last month with this debt ceiling fiasco, where the Republicans took the Obama administration hostage, the folks at Standard & Poors decided things weren't lulzy enough, and they downgraded America's credit rating from AAA to AA+ (GASP! NOT AA+! What ever will we do?) Since this whole debt ceiling thing was an attempt to cause drama and to usurp the power of the world's most powerful man, it was likely that if something would happen (like a credit downgrade), a strategy would be developed such that if the Republican's plan would backfire earily, a democratic option would go into effect (something the Republicans doubted would happen and instructed their media drones to spin in such a way that any downgrade would be speculative). And while most EDiots would care less about this (who could blame you), this pseudo-coupe by the Republicans has FAILED, mostly because most of the stuff that they wanted would only go in effect if the credit rating was not altered. Their plan would have worked flawlessly and they would have proven that they were indeed concerned about how the government was spending money...except for one problem: They forgot to pass a bill to fund the FAA which was partially closed and costing taxpayers $30 Million per day. Here in St. Louis, that would mean that the windows to our Lambert Airport would not be replaced from the Good Friday Tornado this April, and repairs to the Joplin regional airport would not happen. (For those in the know, you may have recalled when Eric Cantor stated that he wouldn't pay for such repairs if the Joplin didn't suck his dick.) So whatever plan the dysfunctional jerks in the congress had planned (including leaving the door open at the airport well after 9/11/11, which would have been just enough time for the Jews to have their 10 year Electric Boogaloo), it has

How to update pictures?
Hi I have tried updating pictures using the "Upload a new version of this file" and "Edit this file using an external application (See the setup instructions for more information)" but I can't seem to be able to do so. Am I doing it wrong?
As for the second method,
this is my ee.ini file
[Settings] # Where should we store our downloaded data? Note that this isn't pruned # currently. Temp Path=c:\ee\TMP # Which browser should be used? The $url will be subsituted with the URL # of whatever we want to look at. The browser should support the file:// # URL syntax. Browser="C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" $url # Should the file be loaded in the browser after being saved? This is # highly recommended, but requires the Browser variable above to be set. Browse after save=true # Is there an external diffing tool you want to use? Diff=/usr/bin/kdiff3 # Should UTF-8 text pages be transformed into iso8859-1 before loading them # in an editor? This is good for a wiki which contains only a few specal # characters and for users whose editors don't support UTF-8. Transcode UTF-8=false # Should pages be watched by default? (Equivalent to the setting in your # MediaWiki user preferences.) Watch default=false # Should edits be checked as minor by default? (Equivalent to the setting # in your MediaWiki user preferences.) Minor edit default=true [Editors] # A bunch of extensions (separated by ,), followed up by the application you # want to associate them with. jpg,png,gif,jpeg="C:\Program Files\GIMP-2.0\bin\gimp-2.6.exe" #jpg,png,gif,jpeg="C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS4\Photoshop.exe" ogg,mp3,wav=/usr/bin/audacity svg=/usr/bin/inkscape wiki=/usr/bin/kate # # SITE DEFINITIONS # Here we define usernames and passwords for different wikis. # Each site should follow the form # # [Site name] # URL match=<something that is part of the URL> # Username=<your username> # Password=<your passwords> # [Encyclopedia Dramatica] URL match=encyc Username=Sirius Black Password=************ #[Testwiki] #URL match=localhost/wiki #Username=Admin #Password=admin #[Testwiki:HTTPAuth] #Server=localhost:80 #Realm=httprealm #Username=httpuser #Password=httppassword
and I have done the necessary adjustments to ee.pl and ee.bat. Also I have successfully installed ActivePerl with the needed modules (Encode, Config-ini files, GTK2).
BTW, I am able to download, by clicking the "Edit this file using an external application (See the setup instructions for more information)" link, the photo to TMP directory and edit it using photoshop and gimp (the script starts it up automatically), having done the adjustments I save and quit. I then click the Save and continue button, a new tab in firefox opens but there are no changes. So could someone with experience in this matter please help me out. David Cameron issued a statement today blaming the riots that started in London then expanded throughout the UK on a culture of laziness and parents not loving their children enough. Nevermind that the UK riots started over Police Bruitality, and that the UK has embraced austerity like Amy Winehouse and Heroin. I predict mass rioting, followed by an exodus at Commons. Unlike Wikipedia, the Commons community doesn't obsess over creating an encyclopedia. Instead, that community obsesses over protecting images – any image, regardless of encyclopedic value. That community forgotten that Commons is meant to be a shared repository of free (as in freedom) images so that an user doesn't have to upload a single image on a thousand wiki. Instead, they believe that Commons is the free speech Photobucket. When the field testing begins, there'll be an uprising. Users will construct bots to revert any attempt to add the filter categories to images. There'll be users pretending to be bigoted Muslims who wish to censor every woman's face in order to trick other users into believing that their worse censorship nightmares have become reality. There'll be sysop resignations and "retirements". The WMF may have to stage a coup and make the wiki editable only by a small few. That's only the worse-case scenario, of course. The WMF gave remarkable little information on their tool will be implemented or how the images will be flagged. Perhaps they don't need the Commons community to collaborate with them. I'm just using my imagination here, but like Meesheep said: "This is going to be a fun one to watch." I learned that hosting providers can be either conservative in nature or liberal in nature. The conservative ones like West Host will drop customers at the first sign of anyone shitting their pants and sending them abuse complaints. The more liberal ones, like Lunar Pages basically ignore whiny little abuse complaints and say that as long yer not breaking any laws in California (where their servers are) then you can do whatever the fuck you want to.
