Kevin & Kell is your untypically funny webcomic. The comic itself started long before last Thursday - all the way back in 1995, almost a decade before ED, and it still manages to retain an substantial fanbase.

The Comic

Others disagree but respect the series nonetheless.

Some state it's reached its zenith, but for many, it's just as good as before.

Kevin and Kell began in 1995, as the very first webcomic, by Bill Holbrook following his creation of two other successful comics. This stuff about being rejected and then going online to compensate is false rumors only.Kevin & Kell was eventually published in a few magazines in the late '90s, such as Boardwatch Magazine and even Playboy. Then Bill Holbrook parted ways with them.

It wasn't until then that they realized they were from separate ends of the food chain. They eventually married knowing good and well they would be outcasts. • Bill actually has two successful comic strips, On The Fastrack and Safe Havens. They have been running since the mid-'80s, and are actually published in real newspapers. They don't involve furry characters, and don't get much attention from him despite their far more successful status, because they don't satisfy his need for yiff.

• Based on the informed gathered above, it's safe to say he has a secret stash of Kevin & Kell porn that he jerks off to every night, whilst cackling maniacally.

Critical Reception

Since its creation, Kevin and Kell been mainly been given positive reviews, although there has also been some criticism. Resident Zompist.com comic reviewer "Bob" praises the way the comic is written and illustrated, and its dealings with difficult issues such as divorce and death. However, he criticizes its suburban nature, saying: "All the family crises are defused within a week or two. No one has any aspirations besides a computer-related job and a quiet heterosexual romance. There seem to be no cities, no foreign nations, no art, no teenage sex."[40] Another review from Disjointed Ramblings comments on the use of satire in the comic, writing that "while the satire is usually gentle, there's plenty of it."[41]

Brandon Sanderson's review in The Official Time Waster's Guide cites the comic's world design, longevity and a discomforting setting where intelligent animals are killed as strengths. However, Sanderson also complained that Holbrook does not enforce this aspect in the main characters, saying, "While Kell, Rudy, and others make kills every day, none of the main character herbivores ever really have to worry about being stalked and killed. When they are threatened (such as when Lindesfarne is stalked by some cougars near the beginning of the comic's run),[42] the enemy predators are presented as dark, evil things to be defeated.…This sense of careless, off-handed killing gives the comic a lot of its humor—however, to maintain that air of humor, Bill never allows the society to work its everyday worst on any of the main characters."[43]

During a review in webcomic podcast Digital Strips, commentator Daku describes Kevin and Kell as "one of the few anthropomorphic strips that I actually like," saying that "this is as if animals had a society." Zampzon praises the quality of the artwork, but complains that the strip relies on too many animal jokes.[44]

Kevin and Kell and Holbrook are both popular within the furry fandom. Holbrook was first contacted by the fandom in late 1995, soon after the strip was published. He attended his first furry convention, ConFurence, in January 1997. Holbrook holds an annual "Kevin and Kell patron social" at Anthrocon for people who sponsor the strip.[36] Holbrook also works occasionally with other cartoonists, both furry and non-furry, and characters from his strip make cameos in other strips. Examples include Ozy and Millie,[45] General Protection Fault,[46] PartiallyClips,[47] and Schlock Mercenary.[48].

Bill Holbrook (born 1958) is an American cartoonist and webcomic writer and artist, best known for his syndicated comic strip On the Fastrack.

Born in Los Angeles, Holbrook grew up in Huntsville, Alabama, and began drawing at an early age. While majoring in illustration and visual design at Auburn University, Holbrook served as art director of the student newspaper, doing editorial cartoons and a weekly comic strip. At the same time, his work was being published in the Huntsville Times and the Monroe Journal. After graduation in 1980, he joined the Atlanta Constitution as an editorial staff artist.

During a 1982 visit to relatives on the West Coast, Holbrook met Peanuts creator, Charles Schulz. Following his advice and encouragement, Holbrook created a strip in the fall of that year about a college graduate working in a rundown diner. It did not stir syndicate interest, but what he learned on the strip helped him when he created On the Fastrack.

Eleven days before On the Fastrack made its syndicated debut (March 19, 1984), Holbrook met Teri Peitso on a blind date. They were married on Pearl Harbor Day, 1985. They have two daughters, Chandler and Haviland. Peitso-Holbrook's novels have been nominated for both Edgar Awards and Agatha Awards. She is currently an assistant professor in literacy education at Georgia State University. The family lives in the Atlanta area.

In October 1989, Holbrook began his second strip, Safe Havens, and his third strip, Kevin and Kell was launched in September 1995.[1]

In late March 2009, an unusually persistent group of vandals repeatedly attempted to blank the furry article. The Kevin & Kell Defense Squad (a title that they themselves invented) are a couple of whiny faggots who have been defacing the furry article (among others) with shit. Evidently, the most hardcore furry buttsecks did not leave them as butthurt as the pages here on ED.

It's suspected that the most persistent vandal of all is actually Bill Holbrook himself:

• The username and e-mail address share similarities: specifically, all of them end with at least a single "1".
• Most of the sockpuppets refer to some sort of giant rabbit; the main character in his comic is a giant rabbit.

• Bill's characters are also based on his own family.

• One of his colleagues (webmaster Chris Kohler) has experience in creating new proxies and IP addresses.
• Nobody else gives a mouse-sized shit about this online cunt smear.

Because the ED sysops know shit when they see it, previous articles about Kevin & Kell were swiftly flushed down the shitter, wrongly leading Holbrook to believe that he had won (despite the fact that their original objective was to have the furry article removed).

Over a year after this article was written (April 2010), the KEVIN AND KELL DEFENSE SQUAD crawled back to their keyboards and resumed their vandalism spree. Strangely, they no longer wish to defend furries; they just want the picture with the giant dick removed. EDiots are still debating whether they are referring to this image or the picture of Holbrook himself.
