About ED

Fashioned in the spirit of Ambrose Bierce's The Devil's Dictionary, Encyclopedia Dramatica's purpose is to provide a central catalog for the e-public to view parody and satire of drama, memes, e-pals, and other interesting happenings on the Internets. General

Got a lulzworthy subject you feel needs to be written about? Submit it to the Needed/Proposed page and someone might pick it up. Make sure you check to see if there's already an article about the subject first.

Patrol recent changes to see what others are doing.

Ask questions at the Thizzlehat Junction Center.

Writing

Write an article. This is the best thing you can do for ED.

Check the Bad New Articles portal to see if there's anything that ought to be expanded or cleaned up.Avoid putting deathnotices on articles as there are usually better ways to do shit

Check the list of wanted articles. This is automatically generated when two or more pages contain links to a page that doesn't yet exist.

Expand on stubs.

Rewrite crappy articles.

Salvage death noticed article review random page.

We're always in need of Article of the Now and Quote of the Now suggestions.
- Picture of the Now and Video of the Now are also nice.

Forum members should highlight good threads.

Images

Add images to articles, or upload better versions of wanted images. Make sure you give your image a detailed name instead of a bunch of symbols or numbers so search engines can actually find them and link to them easier.

Browse though unused images and files and find homes for them. Do not delete or put death notices on duplicate images, use the {{duplicate}} template instead.

Maintenance

Eliminate dead-end pages by adding links to other articles, preferably lonely ones.

Categorize articles. We have a list of existing categories and a list of uncategorized articles. To add an article to a category, click that page's edit link and at the bottom of the entry, type [[Category: (name of category)]] and click "Save Page." Use the "Show Preview" button to make sure you typed a category that exists (red links mean you failed). DO NOT create new categories.

Update/Rotate a Portal. Seriously, this would be highly appreciated. The goal is to have each one changed once every two weeks or so. Anyone can do this.

Request editor privs

If you're interested in helping out further, request editor privs, assuming you've been around for a couple months or have otherwise proved yourself.

I'm having a lot of fun updating the pages with new drama, new content, new happenings etc. The world has changed a ton in the last six years since this site saw it's biggest hive of activity with Trump in office and generating the most amount of lulz since Chanology I guess. I think the biggest problem we face in this current era of the internet is that there's no definitive "ANON BOARD" any more. 4chan is and always was a shithole, 8chan turned into a shithole, and mass exodus after mass exodus from platform to platform have fragmented the community that WOULD use ED to a point where they've moved on. I don't want to say anons have grown out of being anons, but everything I've seen over the last few years seems to point to that. It's sad, it's really really sad. HOWEVER... there is no shortage of lulz to document today, and plenty more lulz from the past to editorialize. There are no shortage of autistic furfags for example, and the furfags that we mocked relentlessly are probably still around making drama THAT NOBODYS TALKING ABOUT. The shitstorm that would unfold with them finding out we wrote about them would be just as hilarious today as it would have been ten years ago, because it's not like ED's lost it's touch, it's aged like wine. Autoblock has been fixed to automatically be applied as infinite as previous settings were resulting in niggerlicious sockpuppetry. A thread on EDF to contest bans/blocks has been created. The bigger problem is how to deal with the endless volume of socks the three spergs (Viril, Antandrus and Mikemikev) keep fucking making. One option is to lock the user registration indefinitely and either have new potential users go on your forums or discord. I know it's a flawed idea, but the extra effort to make a workable sock account might just be enough to deter them, because instead of making one account they have to make two or three on separate platforms. wiki features requests

update on the OGG/OGV/OGA handler plz (copied over from TJC archive 71)

is there any update on this? the .ogg of fagnotta's daddyporn keeps getting moved (by the same user) to an .ogv without explanation except to link to an IETF document which is updated and far past my limited knowledge of .ogg files. an old .OGG file of fagnotta's daddyporn worked fine at .rs and is even downloadable from archive.org (last i looked) but it will not play here. i believe i tried the .OGV format and it similarly would not play. pls halp -hipcrime 17:55, 1 December 2021 (EST)

As per line 21 of the TimedMediaHandler README there is no longer support for .ogv files. I have attempted to force handling through ffmpeg to no avail, I'd suggest you download and re-encode the video in a format supported by TimedMediaHandler like mp4 or webm. Big file upload issues

I downloaded this video and compressed it down to 62MB (just below the 66MB upload limit). When I try to upload it here (in case anyone's asking "just upload it to YouTube", YouTube will ban this video, so uploading it to JewTube is not an option), I get "413 Request Entity Too Large" errors. file usage

on file pages, there is a section that lists file usage but files in a gallery are not shown in the filepage usage section. for instance, the following filepages dont show the files in use, despite their presence in Battle of Berkeley#Gallery:

File Display Issue

I've successfully restored 3 images, all of which required being turned from .jpg to .png files and were converted using cloudconvert.com (except File:20180605 204224.png). File:Kazuka_111.png isn't displaying properly but displays fine on my computer. Is there a way to restore an image without having to use the same file type so I don't have to convert? Template:Spoilers misuse/overuse

The site is littered with "Spoiler" notices created by retards who are apparently unaware of Template:Breakingnews or Template:Goodnews or any of the dozens of other notice templates. And/or the spoiler text is completely irrelevant and/or extremely unfunny.

Some samples of the stupidity in question (literally picked at random from the template's "what links here" page):

I'd say only about 40% of articles are actually using this template appropriately. Another 20% or so are dubious (the "spoiler" is for how the IRL story being told by the article ends) and the rest are moronic late additions that should be converted to Template:Breakingnews or removed completely.

If no one objects, I'd like to go over the "what links here" page for the template to try and remove/convert some of the worst misuses.

A warning message in the template page would also be appreciated.

Set the XOTNs more often

It's fucking JEWS DID WTC Day and there are redlinks for XOTNs on the main page.

This page makes it easy to know which XOTNs need to be set. There will be three squares for each XOTN; the first square is for today, the second one is for tomorrow, and the last one is for the day after tomorrow. recent changes doing the usual

for whatever reason RC is fucked up. it works if you use it "normally" but if you use the live updates button...yeah. seems to be a cookie / settings issue, since the same thing has happened twice. basically, whoever has access to logs should maybe look at it if thats even possible. using webkit aka chrome / edge / safari / etc, its the same engine

GNA / BNA mechanics are changing

tacking {{GNA}} and {{BNA}} onto articles to put them in Category:GNA and Category:BNA does nothing but shit up maintenance since they just have to be removed from the articles a month later. the idea of GNA / BNA is meant to be a small showcase list on main, this is too much kludge for that. and having categories for a handful of rotating articles is pointless. i'm getting rid of {{GNA}}, Category:GNA, and Category:BNA, and making {{BNA}} a deathnotice. this is going to make GNA/BNA rotation a fuck lot easier since you only need to edit Main Page/ED:GNA and Main Page/ED:BNA. h64 (talk) 11:13, 26 July 2024 (UTC)
