Baleetion Page Concept

I threw this together this morning: User:Onideus/Marked_For_Baleetion

Basically as a proposed means of cleaning out some old/useless junk, primarily in order to speed up file searching times and in turn ease up the overall strain on the server. The idea behind it is actually to be as inclusive as possible, not removing any relevant/unique content that may belong to a lost article. Mostly it's to clean up the overly generic, useless, mundane, non-descript crap that could be replaced at any time with a half-assed Google image search. As well as to remove content that I'm ASSuming was originally just...testing crap, I guess. Things like blank images, random screen captures or random photographs of off the wall, ordinary junk.

Anywho, tell me what you think of it and how you think it could be improved upon and so forth. Haters can hate of course (it's expected of them). --Onideus   11:26, 13 June 2013 (EDT)

Old ED Spam Banners

Are these important, or can we just flush them? There's probably a lot more too, these are just the ones I've found so far.

Well, I downloaded a copy of it for prosperity if anything else. Not sure how to upload it to ED. Crazy Turkey Shit

So uh...do we have an article for this kooky bullshit? I noticed the actual Turkey article hasn't been updated for quite some time, so I'm guessing there's nothing on there about it. I'm not even entirely sure what all their drama bullshit is about, but it seems to be a pretty hot topic on the grids at the moment. The crazy Turks have also been resorting to mass level spamming to try and "get the word out" I guess, almost like their crazy shit is some sort of forced political meme. Weirdness. Anyway, just figured I'd mention it in case anyone wants to bother with it. --Onideus   23:11, 16 June 2013 (EDT)

ED's Facebook

Hasn't been updated in weeks - methinks it coincides with Zaiger's retirement. Does anyone else have access to it, or maybe can get ahold of him to grant someone else Admin on it? TylerRosenow 12:18, 21 June 2013 (EDT)

I'm pretty sure E is the one in charge of it, but he's been MIA for about 2 or 3 weeks now. --Onideus   15:25, 21 June 2013 (EDT)

Good News...Bad News

The good news is I've just recently uncovered an incredibly large cache of ED material dating from 2008 to 2010 within the unsorted bowels of my "incoming" Data Archive folder. We're talkin upwards of 10 gigs worth of material, including screen captures of entire talk pages and article to boot.

Now uh...the bad news. Um...it looks like a bunch of stuff was already in the process of being RENAMED...I'd say it's about half and half. There's some other problems I'm running into as well...namely in that the HTML versions of many of the articles we have are ~apparently~ not very "up to date"...or at least, not up to date to the time old ED crashed and burned, which is creating problems like ~this~...

...it's from the ED article...I know because I'm looking at a freakin screen capture of the damn thing...but uh...this image...NOT in the present live article...and it hasn't been renamed either.

So...I don't know...it's a giant fucking squirrely mess. I'm tempted to just do some mass image dumps, throw all the content into the related talk pages and then just let other people try and sort it out from there. *shrugs*

--Onideus   06:32, 25 June 2013 (EDT)

Mmmm, forgot to mention, there's a whole gawd damn BUTT TON of VIDEO material as well, much of which is gone from YouTube at this point. I'm going to try and do some test conversions on some of the missing stuff to the OGV format/codec and then try uploading it to the server directly...although the file sizes have to be under 2 megabytes...although with some of this stuff it shouldn't be much of a problem cause it's like OOOOOLD YouTube content, back when they had much tighter restrictions on clip length, resolution and used lossier video compression. --Onideus   06:39, 25 June 2013 (EDT)
W00T! It works! Good compression/quality too at only 518 Kilobytes for 37 seconds, just using default specs. This is *MUCH* more convenient than PissTube!
--Onideus   07:13, 25 June 2013 (EDT)
  • I wouldn't be opposed to putting the pictures on talk pages, it is what we have been doing. You also have to account for the fact that ED has always been full of shit; we don't necessarily want to restore every picture you find. A good EDiot will scour the talk pages, and, just as before, re-insert quality material where appropriate. Good job by the way. - TylerRosenow 08:33, 25 June 2013 (EDT)
Good call, especially since I just ran into ~this~ problem:
Someone first uploaded this.
Then replaced it with this.
But this is the ~actual~ original
...but that first one that was uploaded actually looks *BETTER* than the original/original does, so we might as well use that one than the crappier two.
--Onideus   08:40, 25 June 2013 (EDT)
Just found another problem too. Namely this. Basically, I guess, some people were hunting down original images, but then RECOMPRESSING THEM before uploading. The real bitch about that is that I can't just arbitrarily upload content that's been renamed to find out if it's needed or not...because the server won't recognize the similarity between the actual original and the recompressed original, it basically sees them as two completely distinct images, even though they're effectively visually identical...meaning if I just start arbitrarily dumping in content it's likely going to create a ton of near duplicates ~reaaal~ quick. --Onideus   08:55, 25 June 2013 (EDT)
i do not agree with the deletion of any file as a duplicate or inferior duplicate, or for the sake of 'tidying'. it causes a host of problems including leaving hte original filename open for anything to be uploaded in its place, and 'image holes' when looking through old diffs. i hope that this has stopped. -hipcrime   13:08, 25 June 2013 (EDT)
I'm mostly talking about ~after~ material has been restored, like with the "Cannibas Care Bear" example above. Also talking about just replacing content with LIKE/SAME content and only when the original is just...well, shit, to be perfectly blunt. That's not to say it needs to be flushed though, just that a new version should be uploaded ON TOP of it, that way the original/original still remains intact and anyone who really wants to see it, can.
The idea though that old ED can ever be restored entirely is just...a pipe dream, basically. That's because articles are in a constant and continual state of flux, with new material being added in and old material being cycled out, rewritten, revised and rearranged all the time...to the point that any perceived "original" is basically nothing more than an out of date, expired pile of rubbish...and that's coming from the guy who has a massive collection of screen caps of what various popular articles on ED ~used~ to look like. Go see the Drugs talk page for an example I uploaded.
Another good example is the Infantilism article. Originally it was plastered over with hard bodied teens and eye pleasing adults in diapers...and I basically stripped all that the fuck out and replaced it with the absolute "worst of the worst" examples from their community. Just because content is "original" doesn't necessarily make it relevant/needed/pertinent in the present article.
Don't get me wrong though, I'm definitely *NOT* saying we should just flush out missing content and forget it was ever there, that would be really, *REALLY* bad, because a lot of the original content *IS* good stuff, it just needs to be restored. --Onideus   14:20, 25 June 2013 (EDT)
That's awesome, Onideus!! Maybe seperate/sort the files by format, put them in folders (subfolders if there's a lot maybe), compress them (separete compressed folders if necesary,) and upload them to MEGA or zippyshare.--  Talk to me|Contribs 21:03, 30 June 2013 (EDT)

In-House Video

So uh...what I'm wondering is...can we use in-house video as VotN material? Or will that break something? I guess it would need to be sized...I don't think it'll autosize...well, maybe it will, fuck if I know.

Yeah, you can size it alright. I wonder if there's some way to fix that distortion mess it shows before you play it. *ponders*

--Onideus   12:02, 25 June 2013 (EDT)

Is that like a "sandbox" sorta deal? I'm ASSuming we shouldn't make any actual changes to that, just use "preview" to test it?
--Onideus   12:16, 25 June 2013 (EDT)
  • Not really a sandbox, it's just a view of the main page 24 hours from now. I use it to see what we're missing, usually... but since nothing rolls over for another 12 hours, feel free to fuck it up and restore the working version before crunch time.... or more accurately, fuck up the AOTN page that is q'd for tomorrow and THEN view Main Page/tomorrow. It can't hurt. TylerRosenow 12:18, 25 June 2013 (EDT)

Purchasing ed.se

ATTN ANY AND ALL CRATS: If we can purchase the domain names ed.se, dramatica.se, or something similar for a reasonable price, I will pay for it.

Generally speaking, the shorter the name and the less common the domain, the more expensive it's going to be (assuming what you want is even available). The standard .com, .net and .org are generally the cheapest. You can get ed.mobi for ten bucks a year, that would be the best/cheapest option overall I think.
--Onideus   20:57, 26 June 2013 (EDT)
Or you could get ae.co for $7 bucks a year. That's even shorter!
--Onideus   21:01, 26 June 2013 (EDT)

Here, I'll just make a list of good ones:

  • ed.mobi
  • ae.co
+1 for ae.co. Anwar Sadat's Horny Ghost 21:11, 26 June 2013 (EDT)
  • dramatic.ae
  • daram.ae (too bad dram.ae is taken)
  • net-dram.ae
  • netdram.ae
  • e-dram.ae
  • edram.ae

Other options! You know you ~might~ be able to use a grease monkey script to alter the functionality of your browsers address bar...in which case you could use whatever the hell you wanted and just have the script redirect on the fly...wouldn't cost a thing. Here's a link to get the main add-on:

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/greasemonkey/ - Augmented Browsing, baby!

...even if you can't alter the browsers address bar you could just take the damn thing off and recreate your own to appear at the top of any website. Requires a bit of coding knowledge of course, but it's not that complex, just JavaScript I believe. Although it's possible to link/utilize/integrate ~other~ forms as well, like Flash, which would allow you to use AS3, which is a full object oriented programming language. --Onideus   21:17, 26 June 2013 (EDT)

iirc you can't register a 1 or 2 letter name TKN 19:06, 27 June 2013 (EDT)
Yeah I think on the major top level domains (com, net, org) one and two letter jobbies are "reserved", but on the "vanity domains" they're not always. When I was searching for available "ae" ones I think it was only single letter ones that were "reserved", so apparently the "rules" are kinda variable I'm guessing. You have to read the fine print too, cause some of these off the wall "vanity domains" have certain restrictions/requirements (like having to have an office in the originating country/region).

I've got a re-write of the Cracked article in the works, and I was hoping to have some help simulating the multipage setup of Cracked articles by having a previous and a next button on the bottom of the page that swap out content on the page for new without the need for actual linking. try asking Mike, Junius or Finney. sry i cant help. :< -hipcrime   19:54, 27 June 2013 (EDT)
I don't think what you're trying to do is going to work simply because of the shared/generic CSS class that it's using, in this case that would be class="morphMaster" . You would need to edit/add to that in order to alter its basic text formatting...and I'm ASSuming that's some standard/built-in Wiki crap. It would probably be easier to just make a new template, or just put the code in directly. It's just basic CSS chit I believe (no real coding/scripting at all). --Onideus   20:34, 27 June 2013 (EDT)

Nah, it's Javascript - you need Javascript to alter whether elements are shown or not in response to a button (without loading a new page from the server). Looks like it's from

https://static.encyclopediadramatica.se/common/ed_global.js?tow

if(allObjects[i].className=="morphMaster") {
var spanID=allObjects[i].getAttribute("id");
var targetID=spanID.substr(0,spanID.length- 6);
var counter=1;
if(returnObjById(targetID+"LinkNext")&&returnObjById(targetID+"LinkPrev")&&returnObjById(targetID+"Content1")){
var nextLink=document.createElement("a");
nextLink.appendChild(document.createTextNode(returnObjById(targetID+"LinkNext").innerHTML));
nextLink.setAttribute("href","javascript:morphForward('"+ targetID+"')");
returnObjById(targetID+"LinkNext").innerHTML="";
returnObjById(targetID+"LinkNext").appendChild(nextLink,0);
var prevLink=document.createElement("a");
prevLink.appendChild(document.createTextNode(returnObjById(targetID+"LinkPrev").innerHTML));
prevLink.setAttribute("href","javascript:morphBackward('"+ targetID+"')");
returnObjById(targetID+"LinkPrev").innerHTML="";
returnObjById(targetID+"LinkPrev").appendChild(prevLink,0);
while(returnObjById(targetID+"Content"+ counter)){
if(counter==1)

returnObjById(targetID+"Content"+ counter).style.display="inline";else returnObjById(targetID+"Content"+ counter).style.display="none";counter++;

}
}
counter=1;
while(returnObjById(targetID+"Link"+ counter)&&returnObjById(targetID+"Content"+ counter)){
var morphLink=document.createElement("a");
morphLink.appendChild(document.createTextNode(returnObjById(targetID+"Link"+ counter).innerHTML));
morphLink.setAttribute("href","javascript:performMorph('"+ targetID+"','"+ counter+"')");
returnObjById(targetID+"Link"+ counter).innerHTML="";
returnObjById(targetID+"Link"+ counter).appendChild(morphLink,0);

}
allObjects[i].innerHTML="1";
allObjects[i].style.display="none";
}
}

(at this point I realize I fucked up the indenting somewhere, but it's got to be better than the minified mess that continues below)

allObjects=document.getElementsByTagName('*');for(var i=0;i<allObjects.length;i++){if(stateArray[allObjects[i].className]) allObjects[i].style.display=stateArray[allObjects[i].className];}} function toggleCollapse(targetClass,collapseText,expandText){var allObjects=document.getElementsByTagName('*');var rCollapsingObject=new RegExp("^co;(.+?);(.+?);(.+?);"+ targetClass+"(;(.+?))?$");var linkType;for(var i=0;i<allObjects.length;i++){if(allObjects[i].className==targetClass){if(allObjects[i].style.display=="none"){allObjects[i].style.display="inline";linkType="Collapse";}

Open Directories

Just found this one: http://ilmegliodiinternet.it/wp-content/gallery/

Lots of good stuff, just raped the entire "song of my people" folder for some base material (we have no article for that). These sorts of open directories work best with mass image harvesters like Web Reaper. Basically you can strip mine all their content in one shot and you don't wind up having to sort through a bunch of extraneous crap (like spam ads and such). Also helps in that everything is usually pretty organized folder/name wise as well. --Onideus   22:51, 30 June 2013 (EDT)

The Spic ED

What the fuck happened to it the Spanish ED site? ••General Niggerson   01:14, 2 July 2013 (EDT)

explanation Uberfukken 08:47, 2 July 2013 (EDT)
Too bad about there not being a backup. In Euroland, at least in the UK, they have very specific laws about user data kept via private companies. It's like a sort of "Freedom of Information Act", but it applies to private companies rather than the government. I know they are currently working on ~extending~ the present FoIA to include data held by private companies, in fact there was some big summit on the issue just a little while back. It ~is~ possible of course to sue a company a for your data, but it's a pretty big gray area, depends largely on their ToS, relevant state/federal laws, etc, etc. But sometimes simply the enacted ~threat~ of a filing a lawsuit is enough to get them to hand it over (just so they can avoid the legal hassle). --Onideus   09:35, 2 July 2013 (EDT)
Filing suit is just too much work for such little reward. Anyway I shared my thoughts about it in the thread. There really should be laws about destroying other people's data, IT guys can be real idiots when it comes to business ethics; this is a prime example. Uberfukken 13:03, 2 July 2013 (EDT)

I'm not helping. I helped out in the Megan Mier case, but that held some viable relevancy. This is just...retardation, to be honest. It would help WEEV, but it would *NOT* do much of anything to actually further the cause against the CFAA. It would make more sense to battle that ~directly~ than indirectly via Weev's case of severe USI. He made his proverbial "hacker" bed and now he's gotta be the one to sleep in it so to speak. If he doesn't like how it turned out then he shouldn't have tried painting himself up as some sort of self-righteous, "white hat hacker" in the first place. You want to use that media tainted label then you need to abide by the consequences that it carries. Either you paint yourself up the martyr and you do the time for the crime, or you stay the hell away from it entirely...you don't pussy out mid run because you suddenly miss your mommy whilst serving time in jail. It's fuckin pathetic. --Onideus   09:59, 2 July 2013 (EDT)
Wired put out a similar article that retreads the same ground about the CFAA, but also goes into more detail about how the government's case was built primarily on sending him to jail because of his trolling on the internet; by which I mean for every piece of evidence proving him innocent they presented irrelevant evidence of his past trolling. Originals Are Not Originals

So um...apparently we're having a major issue with people restoring images, removing the "full image wanted" tags and claiming that they're the ~actual~ originals...when they're not. It seems that most people are in fact restoring the old server's "mid-sized" images. Basically it's an issue on any image that goes over like 800 pixels, because anything over that and the server won't show the true original when you click on it the first time...but that's apparently the version that most people in general have been saving and the version that they're restoring most of the time (under the false perception that it's the original).

Ordinarily it wouldn't be a HUUUUGE issue, but for those of us who have *REAL* archives and can actually do full article restorations it's a major pain in the fucking ass because then *EVERY* single last image has to be checked manually for size comparisons, which basically slows the entire process all around. Another thing some doorknobs are doing is taking the originals and then RECOMPRESSING THEM! *epic face palm* That in turn essentially makes it IMPOSSIBLE to make it automated at all, because the server won't recognize the images as being duplicates of each other unless they have the same file name (even though they're nearly visually identical...to a human).

Soooo...basically...I guess maybe we need an image restoration FAQ. Either added to nyah: Encyclopedia_Dramatica:Image_Selection_Process

Or an entirely new help file of its own. I can start writing it, but we'll need to figure out where best to put it. --Onideus   16:12, 2 July 2013 (EDT)

Should ED take part in this online protest on July 4th?

http://www.dailydot.com/news/july-4-internet-protest-cat-signal-surveillance/

They're activating the Cat Signal for a movement called Restore the Fourth, and there's a good chance it'll be the largest Internet protest in history.

The Cat Signal, you may recall, was created by Fight For the Future, a coalition of activist websites whose backers include Reddit, Mozilla, and Cheezburger. They established it in the wake of the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA), the bill they feared would end the Internet as we know it, as a dedicated way to alert the world of new dangers. It often includes a widget embedded on all participating sites, meaning that when it's activated, it'll be almost impossible for Internet users to miss the message.

here's the internet defense league where thecode for the so-called "cat signal" can be found.: http://internetdefenseleague.org/

membership is free, afaik.

LOL, oh you kids today, you sure are cute! ^__^
By the by, we already did this...back in NINETEEN NINETY SIX! o_O

The "Blue Ribbon Campaign" (for free speech online) was one of the original image based memes.
...yeeeeaaaah, back when Congress passed the CDA, the Communications Decency Act, which, by the way, was like 38 shades WORSE than SOPA.
Congress by the by almost always passes these proposed bills into law, I mean they're getting a MULTI-MILLION dollar bribes to do it, essentially. And they've no problems at all with that knowing that their "big brother" the Supreme Court will simply step in right afterwards and fix their epic fucking mess...they get to keep all that bribe money of course and the MPAA/RIAA and other parties will be out MILLIONS of dollars...win-win all around!
They do this ALL THE TIME, it's practically their job description, there's actually been a whole slew of these idiot "laws" in the past 25 years, every single one deemed unconstitutional by the Supreme Court within a year of their passing through Congress, usually due to lawsuits from the ACLU and/or the EFF.
The last two major ones were the CDA, Communications Decency Act and the COPA, Children's Online Protection Act. SOPA is basically the exact same thing, just reworded slightly. Same old shit, different acronym.
Mmmm, I should probably mention, in the event that a really fawked up law does come to pass, it usually takes the Supreme Court about a year or so to completely flush the fawkin thing...BUT, when they're sued they usually file injunctions that prevent them from actually putting the law into effect at all...so even though the law could effectively be completely passed...yeah, that doesn't mean they can actually act on it.
It is pretty hilarious though, first it was "decency", then it was "won't someone think of the children?" and now we've got "scary pirates" in the latest incarnation, but it's all the SAME fawking bill, just slightly reworded and with new acronyms, CDA... COPA... and now SOPA. I mean, what, do they think the Supreme Court isn't gonna notice it's the EXACT SAME BILL THEY ALREADY BOOT STOMPED?! *rolls eyes* It really is just for the money when you get right down to it.
Also, even ~if~ they did manage to make it a law by some magical miracle...it still wouldn't matter.
The government (at any level) can pass as many silly little rules, laws and regulations as they like regarding the Internet, but at the end of the day they all amount to little more than just overly impotent, inconsequential political blustering at it's best.
The nature of the Internet itself was inherently designed to be open and uncontrollable, a free system for all with NO ONE having any sense of absolute control or authority. As such, any attempts to impose control, authority or regulation over the grid will fail simply by design.
Basically they're proposing laws that can't actually even be enforced...that's how incredibly stupid it is. And *THAT* is the reason why we shouldn't bother participating in this SLACKTIVIST effort to try and feel good about ourselves. If you *REALLY* want to "make a difference"...get yer ass over to the EFF's page and MAKE A DONATION! --Onideus   11:04, 3 July 2013 (EDT)
Make a donation so they can afford to ... make comments all around the internet? Admit it, there's two kinds of people - slacktivists, and the guys in the suicide vests. Don't be the guy in the suicide vest. At least, not unless you like really tight pussy. Wnt 23:17, 19 July 2013 (EDT)

wondering if a backup of all currently used images could be released

maybe in separate parts due to size?? the images.rar image backup on TPB isn't being seeded by anyone, and if ed went down again, it's not as likely that as many of the images ythat have since been restored would be rstored a third time.--  Talk to me|Contribs 02:39, 10 July 2013 (EDT)

...you're joking...right? The original ED archive torrent floating around was nearly TWELVE GIGABYTES in size. And since the formation of ED both Gray and I have jammed in at ~least~ another FIVE GIGABYTES worth of images just between the two of us, not to mention what others have uploaded. ED has been ~seriously~ expanded since its reformation, exponentially so!
Not to mention that, that original ED archive torrent isn't even ~remotely~ complete, at least not by comparison to my own archives...well, that is ASSuming I don't have ~multiple~ copies of ED...I haven't been able to properly discern that as of yet, but it looks like there might be a 2008 ~and~ a 2009 version...either that or that's how long it took to archive everything. It's a giant fucking mess at this point with a bunch of the files already renamed, so everything has to be MANUALLY restored.
In total you'd probably be looking at like 20 to 25 gig torrent and upwards of FIFTY GIGS if you wanted it to include my gigantor mess of data...and I've got a super shit ass Internet connection with like 10K upload speed...MAX! At this point, effectively, SNAIL MAIL is faster than the Internet. If you want to send me a hard drive or sufficiently large enough USB flash drive I could copy the data and send it to you ~that~ way, but there's no fuckin way I'm even gonna attempt to put all that shit up via torrents, that would just be...insane. --Onideus   05:23, 10 July 2013 (EDT)
PS - If it "went down" a third time...we would just put it right back up again, just like we did last time. And actually, last time, we started out with like 2 or 3 different rebuilds of ED simultaneously, this was simply the one we all decided was best to go with. Believe me though, there are quite a number of people like myself who are actively archiving every last little bit of data that's being uploaded to ED. I have bot that specifically runs through the "Gallery of new files" on a daily basis and makes a holistic copy of every last thing uploaded (including my own stuff). I actually keep backups...of my ~backups~...that's how thorough I am! And I know I'm not the only one.
If anything, because of the first crash and burn, there are *MORE* people archiving ED than ever before! I know because the thing that initially prompted many like myself to ~start~ archiving ED in the first place was when the Portal of Evil crashed and burn and Chet "took his ball and went home". Tons and TONS of epic lulz were lost as a result and that was the initial inspiration for many of us to start archiving...EVERY-FUCKING-THING! o_O
--Onideus   05:31, 10 July 2013 (EDT)
Speaking of PoE, this was about all that I could salvage:
...and that's it, that's ~all~ I've been able to find in my archives thus far (aside from a folder on JDR, Ulillillia and "Wolf The Movie"). I consider it to be one of the greatest losses in LULZ content in the history of the Internet. --Onideus   05:43, 10 July 2013 (EDT)
  • Well, now I'm kinda wondering if it would be more feasible for there to be image backups for the articles listed in each Portal (one set of backups per Portal,) each backup split into 4-3 parts. also, 20gb isn't that much, seeing as they make flash drives nowadays that fit more than that on them.--  Talk to me|Contribs 16:40, 10 July 2013 (EDT)

Feminism

this was bugging me for a while:

Women have been grown with the matter of 'sex' since the age of 4. It'd be sensible if they want to add a "meaning" to their life. Men on the other hand have had to deal with "meanings" all their life. Is it too much too ask for some meaningless sex? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Whatnot (talkcontribs)

The Current Favored "Taking Down ED" Tactic

  Since restored by Hipcrime.

Here's another live example: BURK (revision history)

There's quite a number of others and it's become the "in vogue" ED attack of choice, to the point where doorknobs are running around actively encouraging people to do it and even bragging about it (like in the above image). Anyway, it's something we should all be looking out for. Don't take edits at face value, ~especially~ if they're from a complete n00b or someone who has very little editing history. --Onideus   19:56, 10 July 2013 (EDT)

"Unofficial Russian ED" Lurkmore.ru made this announcement on fb

Good day, dear readers and writers!

Strongly suggest you sign a petition for the abolition of the "law against Internet". The essence of tokova g.: according to this law may be condemned (and before that could have blocked without a court order) any resource where anyone has even just link to illegal content. Yes, our articles and discussions (almost all open and available for Anon) can cause a blockage. This madness?! IT'S THE LAW AGAINST INTERNET!!

In General, sign up, tell your friends. Important: only are counted votes on the official website of the Russian public initiative (where all users are verified).

—Bing Tanslation

Any russian ED users, if you could sign this petition that would be great.--  Talk to me|Contribs 18:29, 17 July 2013 (EDT)

someone visited weev and wrote about it

http://pastebin.com/iNHN2maY

  • DISCLAIMER: SHITTON OF GRAMMAR AND SPELLING ISSUES. 0 FUCKS GIVEN. DEAL WITH IT <3*
   I visited Andrew Auernheimer, aka "weev", twitter handle @rabite on Friday 7/19/13 at Allenwood FCI Low Security in PA (3rd attempts to visit, 1st successful):

   **THIS IS A NARRATION OF WHAT HAPPENED WHEN I SAW ANDREW. ACTION ITEMS AND REVELATIONS WILL BE LISTED AS BULLET POINTS AT THE OF THIS PASTE.**

   Andrew has been out of admin seg since 6/21/13, so when I visited him on friday, he was allowed to come to the common area where visitors and inmates mingled freely. It was kind of like an indoor picnic. The atmosphere was very laxed, inmates could hug, sit side by side with their visitor, hold hands, kiss, lean on each other and more. Anything non-sexual was permitted really.
   This was Andrew’s first non-counsel visit, not being confined to a glass booth and having to communicate through a phone. Visitation hours were from 8 to 3 and I got to see him from 9:15 to 2:30ish. When he first came out, it was surreal. I was 4 months to the day (almost) that I had not seen him and I am sure that it was 4 months that he had hugged anyone. We had a very long embrace and it felt really good. He was worried, not having had normal visitors, that it was not allowed. But I had watched other inmates’ interactions and saw it was much less constricting that he thought it was. A couple of times he wanted to disengage the hug and I wouldnt let go would have to say “Dood it’s ok. This is allowed.” I saw him anxiously eyeing the guards making sure I wasnt overstating it. Which is ubes foony, cz I don’t exaggerate that shit...he does lol...We kissed on the cheek and I held his face in my hand and told him I loved him. He smiled and said “I love you too lil girl” (Can you hear my eyes rolling? lol).
   As always and like our phone calls, I first started by asking him rapid-fire Qs on his health, condition, books, letters, nutrition, safety...etc. He gets distracted easily so I had to cut him off and ask specific Qs, in order to be able to know what was done and what needed to get done.
   Then he told me about what he was going through. Obviously he trolled me at no end with all his “Pinky and the Brain” world takeover plans... (I am Brain and he’s Pinky, tho he refutes that. I just think it is obvious...no?).
   We fought about Crick and Franklin (look up discovery of DNA on wiki), as always...smh...I will eternally get trolled by him on that topic. Just no use denying it.
   He was adamant to leave his bad boy image intact, but I told him to suck it up, cz I was gna tell everyone how he spent 15 mins grilling me on who I was going to Defcon with and whether I was gna be safe. “I won’t be there to pull them off of you, if anything happens...” He said referring to an incident that had occurred last year when he had to fight off a couple of dicks who were harassing his female friend. He had to do that while being out on bail <3. I had to remind him that I can take care of myself. That I was arrested at 13 by the moral police in Iran, and if I can safely move away from that situation, I can do anything. He considered that for a min and said “yeah I guess ppl shud be afraid of you a lil more than they are...”. Damn right skippy.
   I asked him if Tor had made any comments on my driving skills last time we visited (I drove 189 miles in 2 hrs on Friday O_0), and he said “Tor found your driving...um...interesting”...lololol....and that he had to remind him that I did live in Iran... (tho I never drove there, but yes good point).
   We talked about the state of lulz of the interwebz and I promised him to get ppl to send him articles, news, lulzy shit as much as I can...
   We fought on how to pronounce AMICUS and I almost flipped him off! He enjoyed reading the amicus and his appeal and was excited about them.
   He endlessly admonished me on not finding a job yet...(can someone please tell him how much of time-consuming bullcrap it is to have so many of them in jail?...). I told him he better not be thinking I will be working when he gets out, cz he be ma sugar daddy...he laughed...I might be joking...I might not be...O_0
   I could not take any pen or paper in so I don’t remember some stuff, I will tweet them out and update the pastebin if I do along the way.

   PLEASE SHARE THIS WIDELY.

   WHAT I SAW:

   -He has lost weight. He didn’t look gaunt, but he was thinner than he went in and he was not overweight to begin with.

   -He was glassy-eyed. Looked exhausted and extremely sleepy, though he was alert at first. He did, however, start to get very sleepy and tired by the end of my visit. I tried to leave earlier so he could sleep but we both thought he needed the contact so he stuck it out.

   -His glasses are most def broken, and sliding down his face constantly. That happened in Essex in Newark NJ.
   I got him Twizzlers and a Snicker bar, only gluten-free options at the vending machine. I forgot to bring more singles (paid toll with most of them..stupid) so I could not get him anything to drink </3. He ate both eagerly and that made me happy.

   -He seemed more subdued and resigned than WHAT I EVER THOUGHT WOULD BE POSSIBLE. It didnt seem like he had given up, just exhausted, thus, preserving his energy by being more quiet.

   WHAT I LEARNED:

   -He is not getting his letters. Out of the numerous ones I had sent he only got one. Yet he recieved all my Flikshops (it’s a very useful app, look it up. It is invaluable). He did not receive any postcards from anyone at all. He specifically did not receive my letters, and a few others.

   -He is getting gluten-free meals, tho unappetizing, he is being fed.

   -He is being worked to exhaustion, presumably to shut him up. As per him, inmates work one shift only, but he is forced to work two shifts. He works in the kitchen from 4 am to 12 pm and from 1-2ish to 11 am-ish he weeds outside. He only sleeps from 12 am to 4 am (ONLY 4 HOURS). He has Fridays and Saturdays off (not sure about Sundays). He admitted in a way that working him so much is proving effective to shut him up. He apologized for not writing too much cz of the exhaustion.

   -He gets $20 of commissary per month and his stamps and MP3 are not included in that $20 and come from a separate fund; so he does not have restrictions on buying stamps or MP3s. (he asked ppl not to donate to his commissary fund, so he won’t have to pay his restitution through that. He instead asked you guys to donate to his WePay and CFAAFund acc. Please refer to the following site for the noted donation funds http://freeweev.github.io/ )

   -He felt alone and down a lil. So please send him letters as many as you can and don’t give up.

   -He has made...um...err...solid allies in prison. I am sure most of you can guess the type of allies he would make, but apparently he is safe as a result and has a posse of sorts (very loose definition of posse).

   -He had specific requests which will be discussed with those who can help in private.
   Some of his attorney-client rights is being violated. Appropriate parties have been notified.

   WHAT IS NEEDED:

   -Please send him letters, flood him with them and don’t give up (not books, letters). He specifically requested articles, news, tweets etc. If you have printing capability, please send him info regularly. He also wants gossip from the interwebz and when I brought up some new cast of characters, he seemed confused...so I promised him a wiki of the interwebz lulz. Some ppl have already offered to help me with that. If you can too and I have not talked to you, please dm me and lets set up something. It would mean a great deal to him and me as well.

   -If you are gna be in town and would like to visit him please let me know or go to the following site and download the application, fill it out and SIGN it and send it to his prison counselor at the following address. When approved he will let you (or me) know and you can visit him. So far only @NicolePowers and I (minus Tor, his attorney) have visited him. http://www.bop.gov/policy/forms/BP_A0629.pdf

More Good News/Bad News

So...in my "reaping" folder, for sites that I've strip mined for data...I ~was~ just looking at the folders created from ED. But today I decided to peruse a few of the others...and uh...apparently I was reaping material from sites/open directories who in turn had actually gotten like 90% of their material off of ED...either that or the people who uploaded them to ED got them from there and just didn't change the file names...

In any event, there's like...another 40 fuckin gigabytes of images to sort through now. *bangs head on keyboard* I think I need to try and come up with a faster way of restoring stuff. --Onideus   04:58, 22 July 2013 (EDT)

Uh...now there's another problem...

So...it appears that, for some reason, some of the files have bit level corruption (probably from the original sources). So in some cases it's like...there's HALF of an original. o_O

In this case it's probably better to stick with the one DekoMan91 uploaded, but I guess the question is...in cases of outright missing files or with thumbnails...which is better? Nothing/thumbnails...or PART of the original file? --Onideus   05:35, 22 July 2013 (EDT)

in the case of missing images, leave them.

with thumbnails, either combine the images in office or photoshop and reupload - maybe add a new template for in that case. OR, just leave the thumbnails.--  Talk to me|Contribs 01:25, 23 July 2013 (EDT)

I suppose I should try and determine what has the most potential positive results as far as reverse image searching. If all else fails they could just be uploaded separately along with a tag like "-corrupt-original-" and then linked to in the main image talk page. --Onideus   20:52, 25 July 2013 (EDT)

To the techfags out there

I'm noticing a lot of pages still refer to a nigger as a "black person", a holdover from the whale days of old ED. Is it possible to make a bot or something to scan ED and replace "black person" with "nigger"? --One With The Lulz 20:23, 30 July 2013 (EDT)

Is that an old ED thing or a vandalism thing? Cause a few months back I saw this one doorknob running around making minor edits like that to "racist" references on dozens of different articles as well as attempting to make various sections less inflamatory/drama inducing. I banned them, but they had like dozens upon dozens of edits like that...not entirely sure I got them all fixed...plus there might be other doorknobs who are actively doing it. --Onideus   22:09, 30 July 2013 (EDT)
Well, just to see if I could, I tried getting AutoWikiBrowser to link up with ED using my own user account, but I couldn't get it to log in. It might be because I don't have admin rights, not sure if that's the case. Anyway, if whatever the problem was clears up and I got the green light to run a bot, I wouldn't mind helping out. Who Is This?

Came across it whilst randomly diggin through archive stuffs. It's pretty funny. I doubt the original is still up, given that it's from 2008, so I went ahead and stuck it on my account. I would have uploaded it directly as an .ogv file, but it was too big unless I split it apart. I'm thinkin it could also be added to the "taking down ED" article (in addition to the original source article). --Onideus   07:08, 31 July 2013 (EDT)
