A booru (plural boorus, Japanese for "board") is a style of imageboard much like a chan, except you have to register and the image you post stays up FOREVER. The result, of course, is inevitably large amounts of gay furry porn, gay furry fart porn, and CP. A booru can easily be distinguished by having a bunch of iddy biddy lolis holding up numbers on the front page bragging about how many images the site contains... DO NOT BE FOOLED! Behind every loli there are thousands upon thousands of obese lizard people gang-raping a fetus. And you're next. So, if you value your sanity, stay away... but, considering how you're you, that's a lost cause anyway...

Imageboard 2.0

Danbooru-style boards organize images based on tags, ratings, and scores. So instead of having a hierarchical organizing structure with a bunch of directories and sub-directories (or boards, such as /b/, /mlp/, /pol/, etc.) one finds images simply by searching for their characteristics.

Software

The software used on boorus varies but it is obvious that either ~~Derpibooru~~ (one has to have an account to affirm and negate multiple tags) or the Sankaku Channel has the best software. Booru.org's software is total shit. This is likely because Slayerduck is too poor to afford buying Gelbooru 0.2.x—so instead it's users are stuck with Gelbooru 0.1.x open-source-shitware. There is other software—which, qualitywise, is in between.

A list of boorus

rule #34 (rule34.paheal.net) – The Supreme King of boorus. Has rule 34-style porn of ~~EVERYTHING~~ loli is banned.
Danbooru (danbooru.donmai.us) – pretty much the same as Gelbooru, just a weeaboo overload.
Gelbooru (gelbooru.com) – pretty much the same as Danbooru, just a weeaboo overload. Also they bitch at you for tagging incorrectly instead of just aliasing tags.
Sankaku Channel (chan.sankakucomplex.com) – a more content liberal anime imageboard compared to Danbooru and Gelbooru—although racism is banned, even in jest. Also you only get to post 20 images then have to wait around 10 years to post more.
Derpibooru (derpiboo.ru or derpibooru.org) – Yes, even bronies have gotten their grubby little hands into this shit. They too are huge pussies as "racial, sexual or religious discrimination, use of racial or homophobic slurs, and other abusive content" is also banned (Rule #0).
PoniBooru (pbooru.com) – for MLP:FiM images that are not allowed at Derpibooru.
The Big ImageBoard (TBIB) (tbib.org) – so big, much wow.

- Realbooru (rb.booru.org) – IRL sexual images
- Safebooru (safebooru.org) – only non-porn crap for pussies.
- FurryBooru (furry.booru.org) – 2nd largest board—full of sick fucks.

Bulk uploading

Mass-uploading on booru.org (or other Gelbooru-type sites) is tough shit, one has to:

Get an old version of Firefox (less than version 38 but older than 3.6).
Register to a booru.
Go to https://ibsearch.xxx/mass-upload/ (append "?http://your-booru/index.php?page=post&s=add" to the end of this URL) (previous domain).
Go to Firefox → options → remove individual cookies → search for: "pass_hash" and "user_id" then copy the contents of cookies and paste it into the forum.

And now that Proger_XP deleted the online hosting of the script (on September 7, 2015, see "> But...but...WHY?! :'(" and butthurt forum posting) one has to:

Get Apache and PHP (use XAMPP, other shit will also probably need to be installed: so install MySQL etc. when XAMPP asks).
Run as administration (for Windows users).
Copy the files in the ZIP file "mass-uploader.zip" to "C:\xampp\htdocs\mass-uploader" (for Windows users).
Go to URL "http://localhost/mass-uploader/?http://your-booru/index.php?page=post&s=add"
OH SHIT, IT DOESN'T FUCKING WORK.

Or simply install this little userscript to have the uploader integrated right into your booru. No messing with cookies, FF or other bullshit is required anymore.

Needless to say, shit JavaScript code and a convoluted process which only hackers on steroids can handle constructs an environment that is not very Web 2.0. Also, faggots at rule34.xxx and rb.booru.org have a mass-uploading script; they just don't share it with everyone.
