Dogecoin (also known as Dodgycoin) is an open source peer-to-peer cryptocurrency, whatever the hell that is supposed to mean. The currency went onlin December 6th, 2013 and became favored by Shiba Inus worldwide because dogs care about human space bux.

For those who actually have a job and don't spend all day on the Internet, the currency is named after Know Your Meme's Meme of the Year, Doge. It was programmed by a former IBM engineer who never heard about memes. Someone suggested Dogecoin and he went with it. He was interested in virtual currencies but distanced himself from Bitcoin due to it's association with Silk Road, failing to realize the Doge was popularized by drug addicts who are unable to make out complete sentences.

The true intent of Dogecoin is to get people to spam the Doge meme so that 2014's Mosted Unfunny and Hated Meme of the Year. Looking at Dogecoin related websites and posting by currency holders it is off to a very good start.
