Kerbal Space Program 2 is the supposed sequel to the critically acclaimed Kerbal Space Program, this time developed by a new studio Star.Theory Games after the KSP franchise was purchased from their old devs, the Mexican advertisement company, Squad by Private Divison Games, a subsidiary of Take2 publishing. Kerbal Space Program 2 was announced at Gamescon 2019 and was slated to release in the first quarter of 2020 and was set to include the original Kerbolar system, interstellar travel, colony building, new solar systems, complex supply lines, co-op and competitive multiplayer, and optimize the game a bunch adding goodies along the way. The fans were excited, the game was coming out soon, and the fans were HYPED what ever could go wrong?, well if only you knew how bad things really are.
Star.Theory Games and the Man Named Nate Simpson
First and foremost, Star Theory, (formerly known as Uber Entertainment) was the stuido contracted by Private Division already had a shady track record going into making KSP2 with such hits like Super Monday Night Combat, Toy Rush, or Planetary Annihilation, the last game mentioned Planetary Annihilation was a Kickstarter game and was stuck in early access hell after Jewing 2.3 MILLION DOLLARS out of supporters before. Even though the game launched in a rough state it was "fixed up" and it was later sold to the fans in 2018 and that team maintains the game to this day.
Nate Simpson
—Nathan Simpson, 2024 |
Nate Simpson was the creative director of Star.Theory Games and later Intercept Games, he is renowned in the Kerbal Space Program community for being the Jew at the helm of KSP's development and the one steering the ship towards catastrophe. He's famous for being extremely secretive about the game's development, almost like he has something to hide... except for the breadcrumbs he tells the community like "Maneuver nodes refuse to allow the player to plan beyond the calculated Delta-V allowance, which in many cases is an incorrect value"[1]. As the creative director of Intercept Games he's basically kind of a big deal who makes all decisions on the direction the game is to be going and the public figure of Kerbal 2. He has claimed to be a long-time fan of Kerbal so its ironic that he eventually ran the game to its grave.
The Death of Star.Theory and the Life of Intercept Games
In February 2020 (past when the game was supposed to be out) Private Divison games created a new studio to develop medium-sized games, that company was known as Intercept Games and because Star.Theory was still contracted to make Kerbal they simply took the game from them and gave it to Intercept, but who was to work in this new studio? You can't make a brand new studio overnight after all so they just poached all talent at Star.Theory to work at their new studio leaving the rest jobless and causing Star.Theory's quick death and causing the rise of Intercept Games, the new studio built from the ground up to make Kerbal 2 the great game it was mean to be, right?
