Their advice to lurk around more before jumping into editing articles is probably the best that can be given. Seriously, just lurk more, read articles, and get to know the people on the site. I don't know if you took the time to read the welcome message when you signed up, since you deleted it, but I would highly recommend you take the time to familiarize yourself with the info it contains.
As for the content you added to the Brony article, it was, for lack of a better description, crap. The sections were haphazardly thrown into the article with little context other than "LOL BRONEEZ ARE PEDOS", and are little than a string of stock insults that you see all over the internet. You said that the article doesn't seem hostile enough, well that's almost the point; we don't need to be overtly hostile. Bronies dig their own graves and all we have to do is offer up exhibits A through Z for how fucked they are. Our thesis gets stated at the start of the article, we give a bit of flavored history on what started the whole mess, and then we document the shit they do. That's pretty much what's done in every article here. Don't just call them pedophiles and horsefuckers, back that up actual proof. That's the best advice I can give you.

The reason this doesn't really fit with the article is because it's not meant to document individual people. If you look at the sections that are there you'll see they covers things like Down With Molestia, the terrible Brony Documentary, and how they flipped their shit over Howard Stern; these are all things that the fandom has done as a whole. Even the section that deals with a Brony raping a 16-year-old girl focuses more how other Bronies came to his defense, and not on the singular person.
This looks like an okay section that you might find in the article about this particular person, Michael Marones. As far as I know there currently isn't one, though I think his death is briefly mentioned in the Pinkiepony article, and this would make a fine jumping off point to write one if you were so inclined.
Then there's the issue of your delievery, it's not bad but it's still a little forced. I'm not very good at giving actual writing advice, but I can show you what edits I'd make to your entry.

As you can see, with just a little revision it feels more in-line with the ED style; at least in my opinion. The problem we run into now is that there's really not a whole lot there. It looks better, but it's still the equivalent of saying, "Dude, I heard some kid killed himself after he was picked on for being a Brony." While quantity doesn't always equal quality, this particular edit could stand to be larger.
I'd say that you're on the right track overall, and that you could stand to dig a bit into the Brony news-sites for material; shy of imbedding yourself within the fandom it's the best way to find article fodder. I would reccommend you start with this particular movement which seems to be getting traction amongst the Bronies. Follow it down the rabbit hole and see where it takes you.
