Dashcon

Dashcon was a weeaboo convention created by Tumblr users, for Tumblr users to take place in Schaumburg, Illinois. Heavily criticized from its inception, the only people it didn't manage to disappoint were the people laughing at it from the beginning.

The project started as an Indiegogo campaign, and because there's nothing tumblr loves more than donating money to implausible causes, swathes of children and teenagers pledged their allowance money to internet strangers, setting the tone for events to come. The planners began their three day con on July 11, 2014, and within seconds, they shook down the convention-goers for $17,000. Tumblrfags coughed up the money, but it was too late: the talent had bailed after foreseeing this brewing disaster. The $17,000 was spent on the $100 dollar rental of a ball pit and bouncy castle to placate people dumb enough to want to see "Welcome To Night Vale", resulting in elevation of "an extra hour in the ball pit" to meme status.
