Welcome, Rms

This is serious. READ IT.

Before making your first article look over ED:101. If you don't, it is unlikely that your article will survive for more than sixty seconds and you risk being banned by ED Sysops.

We realize a lot of you are busy or may be new to ED, so here's just the most important info:

  • Read ED:101. Seriously. The information contained within is invaluable. Further tutorials of use can be found here.
  • To answer a message, reply on the user's talk page (Tab at the top that says 'discussion').
  • Sign your comments by using four tildes (like this ~~~~)
  • These are the sysops. If you have a problem, talk to them. They're here to help; we promise.
  • The TJC is the community portal. It's linked to from every page; just look at the top left of the page. Check it daily.
  • Use Special:Upload to upload pictures. Be sure to give them meaningful names. Also, do not upload any CP or Bestiality pr0n or you will be b&.

TV Tropes

hello. probably the best solution is to make subpages of the TV Tropes article. that way, they are all organized, and findable to those who are interested. in case you dont know yet how to make a subpage, you just tack the article name onto the end of TV Tropes after a forward slash (/), like so: TV Tropes/Deleted article name. hope this helps, and im sorry to hear about TV Tropes. :( -hipcrime 14:00, 28 April 2012 (EDT)

happy to help. -hipcrime 14:18, 28 April 2012 (EDT)
btw: save the images. -hipcrime 14:21, 28 April 2012 (EDT)
User:JuniusThaddeus and User:Mike the Great are very good at that. -hipcrime 15:20, 28 April 2012 (EDT)
it seems that Mike is busy IRL, but Junius did make this page look nearly identical to the thread at WR. -hipcrime 19:47, 28 April 2012 (EDT)

I'm busy

But when I'm not maybe. I can only do so much with HTML, because I'm limited by media wiki to wiki markup, which is stupified HTML. it may very well end up looking like an ED page with Tropes info on it, but I might can be able to do some minor changes, idk. Show me a page and I'll see if I can do anything. Mike the Great (talk) 16:03, 28 April 2012 (EDT)

No, media server currently only supports images. You could archive the raw text on a page, that's about it. Mike the Great (talk) 20:27, 28 April 2012 (EDT)
You would need FTP access to do that. Also I'm back, what were you asking again? Mike the Great (talk) 01:04, 1 May 2012 (EDT)
I get what you're doing. I don't get what I am. Wouldn't it just be easier to like, copy the raw text on all of them? HTML won't show up in a wiki unless it's a tag like <b> that just happens to be the same for both markups. I mean tropes is a language based wiki, and you're not bothering with images, so why not just like ... copy paste? Just stick them in TV Tropes/Article Name? I don't really get where I play in to all this. Mike the Great (talk) 01:25, 1 May 2012 (EDT)
somehow Junius managed to get those leaked threads to look just like they do at WR. have a look at this example. -hipcrime 04:53, 1 May 2012 (EDT)
It's not hard to do. It would just require it be manually done to hundreds of pages. Mike the Great (talk) 04:59, 1 May 2012 (EDT)
How would you waste my time? If you're saving it all anyways who wants a .zip? People want to read it and it would give us traffic Tropes would be getting, and it would make them mad when they realized all the millions of dollars their deleted content was making us. I don't really follow any of your thought processes. How do you know what will be deleted? How long do you have? etc Mike the Great (talk) 01:41, 1 May 2012 (EDT)

scraping utility

hello. i wish i could help by giving some advice, but i have none. i recommend asking someone who is good with computers, like E. i don't know who the experts are in that area, but s/he might. sorry bout that. and godspeed in your efforts. :3 -hipcrime 01:34, 1 May 2012 (EDT)

archives

hello. it is unlikely they could be stored on ED's servers, as there is a file size limit, and i dont think that the wiki takes non image binaries at the moment, although i could be wrong. the best person to ask about an exception would be E. im sorry i cant be much help here, because i would like to help. this seems important to a lot of tropers, and i think its the kind of content that adds a lot to ED. -hipcrime 04:48, 1 May 2012 (EDT)

looks good, but i don't think ED has to deal with legal problems. please note: i may be wrong. in either case, i would ask Zaiger. i didnt know that they were deleting shit on the basis of its legality. -hipcrime 13:13, 1 May 2012 (EDT)
i see no need for a subpage for a link to the archive at mediafire. i think i am misunderstanding your request, care to elaborate? -hipcrime 13:55, 1 May 2012 (EDT)
oh, you mean the purges? ya, that might be a good article. if you're inclined to write one, then by all means, do. if not, you could ensure people see your link by putting a notice at the top. -hipcrime 14:07, 1 May 2012 (EDT)
hello. i notice you are experiencing the problem that wikis have with pages exceeding 32kb. the person to ask about a solution (or workaround) to this would be Junius. he is on every wiki ever, and knows more about MediaWiki than me, and most other sysops, tbh. -hipcrime 17:56, 1 May 2012 (EDT)
very good. the information is now there, all it needs is a little cleanup, some linking, and removal of first person. either our staff will see to it, or you are free to tidy it up a bit, if you are inclined. the main thing is htat the information is now there... the rest will fall into place. :) -hipcrime 19:03, 1 May 2012 (EDT)

Tropes deletions

On your new article TV Tropes Response To Pedocide do you have a list or some examples of pages or sections deleted and edit summaries that accompanied the deletion? Would really help clarify what happened. If you'd like to see the content re hosted, perhaps on ED sub-pages or else some other service like Wikia/Wikkii? Tymec 22:47, 2 May 2012 (EDT)

re:

hi: i don't see why not. :) -hipcrime 20:30, 7 May 2012 (EDT)

Ya

Just read ED:SG and learn the difference in linking and piping. For instance you would say [[User:RMS#Ya]] instead of [http://encyclopediadramatica.se/User_talk:Rms#Ya] to link to other pages on ED. works with subpages, too. Also pics are good. Mike the Great (talk) 02:48, 14 May 2012 (EDT)

Because the MIME types don't match, ofc. This means you have .pngs marked as .jpgs or vice versa. Rename the file before you upload it, or change the extension in the destination box (upload 1534255.jpg meaningfulname.png) Mike the Great (talk) 02:17, 17 May 2012 (EDT)

Hey

this is how you pipe to articles like this. Also note in the link I just posted I didn't use |. External links are just [link name]. the moar you know Mike the Great (talk) 03:32, 17 May 2012 (EDT)

It's really what we're here for, and you're welcome. Mike the Great (talk) 05:07, 17 May 2012 (EDT)

tropes archives

hello. while i am appreciative of your contributions, i was not a troper, and dont rly care much about the project, except my usual duties, e.g. vandal protection etc. -hipcrime 04:38, 30 May 2012 (EDT)

remarkably well written. you are an asset to ED and this is just the kind of stuff it's here for. thanks for contributing. :D as for the stuff on my page, just go ahead and leave it there. it isnt hurting anything and its almost time to archive anyway. :) -hipcrime 05:05, 30 May 2012 (EDT)
HEY THERE!
Hey, Rms! I saw what you did with Tropes article rescue.
I just wanted to say keep up the good work.
-hipcrime 09:05, 1 June 2012 (EDT)
i encourage you to do that. godspeed brave soldier of lulz. -hipcrime 10:37, 1 June 2012 (EDT)

Well

there's this and this. That should pretty much cover anything except what's not indexed and fuck anybody if they want to get to that. This would be the only way to do that. Mike the Great (talk) 16:46, 30 May 2012 (EDT)
