Dead Island is a so-called "survival horror action role-playing game" that was developed by a group of polacks called Techland, published by a group of krauts called Deep Silver and released in North America on September 6, 2011, for the PlayStation 2, Xbox 360 and PC. The game was later given a "Game of the Year Edition" with all the DLC included, an asset flipped pseudo-sequel called Dead Island: Riptide and an HD remaster of both games for next gen consoles entitled Dead Island: Definitive Edition.

Dead Island is known for its deceptive pre-release marketing campaign that attempted to portray the game as a gritty and realistic simulation of a zombie apocalypse on a tropical island. The original trailer has become notorious for featuring somber music over scene of a loli turning into a zombie and getting thrown the fuck out of a seventh story window by her daddy – which is odd considering that there are no children in the game at all.
