A 'Fraggle', in British slang, is a person who displays some sort of bizzare behaviour pattern, a nutjob, a lunatic.

The name derives from the title and characters of Jim Henson TV puppet show 'Fraggle Rock', and, for some reason, stuck (in Britain, at least) as a new nickname for someone who is crazy. Interestingly, a number of mental institutions in different parts of the UK almost overnight all became known as 'Fraggle Rock' to the locals, without any sort of prompting.

A Fraggle is not to be confused with a Muppet (just an idiot) or a Hoob (just strange..).

Internet Fraggle

Internet Fraggle of Note

As a Fraggle in IRL is a lunatic of a sort, they're maybe the sort of person you'd normally avoid. Thanks to the internet however, you can have the pleasure of actually safely experiencing the basketful of craziness that is their lives in the comfort of your own basement.

It is quite easy to spot something which looks like an Internet Fraggle, pick any subject, and there's usually at least one of them out there posting their thoughts on it. The more typical Internet Fraggle tends however, like a moth to the flame, to be attracted to the rather more 'outré' subjects (and the more bizzare the subject, the more Fraggles).

Typical Internet subject areas with fairly/very high quotas of Fraggles include;

  • UFOs
  • Alternative Eneregy
  • Global Warming
  • Politics
  • Conspiracy Theories

(though they can be found lurking almost anywhere)

As the typical interests for Fraggles are somewhat bizzare in the first instance, it may be a while before you spot the true Fraggle rather than the more common Muppets or just plain dilettantes, the Fraggles are the ONES WHO USE CAPS ALL THE FUCKING TIME and who tend to rant, and rant, then rant some more...

However, like their muppet namesakes below, Internet Fraggles come in a wide variety of shapes and colours, and, until recently, trying to categorise and definitively mark out the true Fraggle (Muppetus rocksintheirheadii ssp. fraggelli ) from the lesser muppet species (Muppetus hoobii et al.) that infest the internet has been a daunting task.

Thanks to pioneering work carried out by the team of Ze Prof and Dr. Tesla, we now have a means of classifying these individuals, and assign them a value on the Massa Scale. (Think: Richter scale for lolcows etc..) Those at the Insignificant end of the scale tend to be good only for maybe one laugh, those at the Extraordinary end tend to be living in a different universe and each visit to their pages guarantees fresh lulz.
