Equivelant exchange or a closed circle.

God of War 2018 is a reboot of the original series but instead of being an Anal loving Greek, Kratos makes the long journey, from Sparta, to the far North for some White, Nordic pussy and somewhere during all this - he has a kid out of it named Loki, or rather Atreus.

The whole plot revolves around the whole idea that time is a closed circle and creatures such as the Midguardian Serpent can be sent back to before their creation and even meet their Father before they were born due to events that happen during Ragnorak or the end of the world. This, for the writers' of the game, allows the idea and believability of prophesy, fate and destiny because as everything has already happened it is meant to happen in the same way again and again.

Play for the garden gnomes

This game takes an original route and deals with the ashes of the dead.

The plot can be summarized as, Kratos' wife dies and he makes a promise to scatter her ashes on the highest peak in all the realms of the World Tree. Before he can even set out on this journey, he is interrupted by the Norse God's who are looking for a way into Jötunheim, or the land of giants.

For the most part, the game's plot mechanics work like this Fight, Story about Odin or Norse gods, Fight, Story about Odin or Norse gods, fight . . .

The game does it's best to bastardize Norse Mythology and rewrite at every chance it gets. For instance, Magni and Modi survive Ragnorak in myth but die in the game. Tyr, in mythology is eaten by Fenrir during Ragnorak but is already dead. The only thing they do get right is Freya being Vanir and not Aesir.

Characters

Name Description Picture
Kratos The main character of the story. Makes a promise to scatter his wife's ashes on the highest point of Midgard after she dies. Known as the Ghost of Sparta after he killed his father because of being tricked by Aries. Born a Demi-god, son of Zeus and a mortal woman. His goal in the games is usually to avert disaster or change fate which makes it ironic that he is in a game where fate is a law and can not be changed. The 2018 reboot has him battling Nordic gods and monsters instead of the Greek ones he has been fighting for close to 7 or 8 games.

Atreus/Loki The whiney ass bitch that unfortunately happens to be Kratos' son and will have you wishing you had the guts to steal your grandmother's knitting needles and put them through your eardrums because when he's not whining he thinks he's better than everyone because he was born a god. Towards the end of the story he becomes likable but it's not enough to make him a likeable character on the whole. Born sick, actually the sickness he has is his mind trying to accept that he is a god because no one ever told him, and has a unparalleled skill at learning languages. Unlike most whiney characters in games he is useful as a secondary character with his bow for a quick kill when he stuns an enemy or finds health items in battle when Kratos is getting hammered in the ass. Mostly in the game for conversation and exposition as it is mostly through his conversations with Mimir that you learn about the Nordic world being portrayed in this game.

Laufey/Faye The mother of Atreus and dead wife of Krotos who requested that he scatter her ashes on the highest peak in all the realms and take their worthless son with them. A prophet capable of seeing into the future. Krotos and Atreus' entire journey was spelled out by her in a panel at the end.

Mimir Former advisor to Odin and ambassador to the Vanir until he pissed in Odin's wheaties for one reason or another and Odin punished him by having him grow as part of a tree. Through most of the game he goes around as a reanimated head as this is all that can be harmed of him and needing to take Mimir with them, Krotos cuts his head off and Freya reanimated its. Rumored to be the smartest and have a vast library of knowledge but mostly he comes up short. His main role is exposition in explaining the Norse gods and the world Krotos and Atreus are in.

Magni and Moni Thor's two inept and retarded sons

Baldur Half-brother to Thor and Freya's tattooed, Douchebag son whose goal it is to find a way into Jötunheim for Odin. He is only chasing Krotos' ass because he knows he is married to Faye, who is a giant, and possibly knows the way into the realm. Baldur is unaware that she is dead. Was given the ability to not feel pain and is immune to almost everything excluding Mistletoe because, in myth, Freya thought it was so weak and unthreatening that she didn't need to protect Baldur from it

Freya/The Witch In The Forest Ex-wife to Odin and mother to Baldur. Gave Baldur the ability to not feel pain, to his disdain, and be immune to almost any weapon or type of attack. Highly skilled in healing magic. Dumped Odin when she realized he was using her to learn her magic knowledge. Also known as Frigga. The game explain that because Odin didn't want to give any recognition to a Vanir, when Freya did something amazing it was said that Frigga did it. Brings Mimir's disembodied head back to life at the request of Krotos.
