A Mary Sue (also known as Sue; Marty Sue, Marty Stu, Mary Stu, or Gary Stu if male) is the end result of someone becoming so obsessed with being part of an nonexistent universe that they simply had to make a character that they can project themselves on to be part of said universe. However, the character always ends up being an overcompensated, overly-perfect wish-fulfillment of the author, inflicting nothing but his or her own arrogance.

A Mary Sue (also known as Sue; Marty Sue, Marty Stu, Mary Stu, or Gary Stu if male) is an unbelievable character that usually is just too good to be true. This is often the end result of someone becoming so obsessed with being part of an nonexistent universe that they simply had to make a character that they can project themselves on to be part of said universe. However, the character always ends up being an overcompensated, overly-perfect wish-fulfillment of the author, inflicting nothing but his or her own arrogance onto the fiction and/or fandom.

Despite being a literary criticism, Mary Sues have managed to invade every medium of entertainment, as nearly every single fictional video game, movie, TV show, and book has at least one, to the point that they have evolved into an entire character archetype.

Some argue that the best way to identify a Mary Sue is if they suffer no realistic consequences for their actions. For example, if your character is murdering people left and right and doesn't have the fucking military in their pursuit, then it might be time to get new hobby besides creative writing, such as learning how to actually be fucking creative, or prostitution. This makes the character less believable, and the first thing we want to do when we read stories about wizards and aliens is to be cockslapped back to reality.
The worst of these attention-starved suethors will try compensate for this by slapping some sort of bullshit "flaw" in order to get people to stop calling out their literary-abominations for what they are. Coincidentally, these "flaws" often coincide with the author's dislikes due to lazy-as-balls writing (as the hastle to write slashfic with a goddess such as Sparkles Starbeam to Sazuke is too overwhelming). These "flaws" often appear in three flavors:
*"Flaws" that can often be used to excuse the Sue's annoying and angsty behavior, such as beating the shit out of a bunch of fak prepz and the teacher looking the other way because "Her mother died when she was young, so it's okay for her to beat them up."
*Flaws that aren't flaws, such as "her boobs are TOO big!", or end up being fodder for a Gimp Sue.
*Flaws that are lazily slapped on that will never be relevant to the story.
Because so many self-enamored gits write Mary Sues, there are many different kinds of Sues in the world. Trying to list them all would be impossible, but here are a few of the general categories into which a Sue can fall. Feel free to troll, flame, and report the ever-loving shit out of anyone who writes this garbage. Besides, the retards who write this shit have glass egos thus BAW most beautifully when confronted.

Canon Sue is a corruption of a legitimate canon character within the fandom to the point that they resemble the fanfic author itself. They may acquire new powers, undergo a makeover (including the dreaded Hot Topic punk variety), become good friends with canon characters the author loves, usurp the positions of - or become enemies with - canon characters the author hates, or just act completely out of character in a way that makes those familiar with the canon scream in horror. The Canon Sue can be used as a self-insert in and of itself or in combination with an author's original character Sue.

"Canon Sue" can also refer to shitty characters in the original canon itself (ex: Bella Swan and Wesley Crusher), where it instantly turns into a flame war.

Oh, and she fucks Murdoc. Ya know, the middle aged one who never bathes. Hot. Be nice, the author cries when people give her bad reviews. T_T
