Before making your first article look over ED:101. If you don't, it is unlikely that your article will survive for more than sixty seconds and you risk being banned by ED Sysops.

We realize a lot of you are busy or may be new to ED, so here's just the most important info:

  • Read ED:101. Seriously. The information contained within is invaluable. Further tutorials of use can be found here.
  • To answer a message, reply on the user's talk page (Tab at the top that says 'discussion').
  • Sign your comments by using four tildes (like this ~~~~)
  • These are the sysops. If you have a problem, talk to them. They're here to help; we promise.
  • The TJC is the community portal. It's linked to from every page; just look at the top left of the page. Check it daily.
  • Use Special:Upload to upload pictures. Be sure to give them meaningful names. Also, do not upload any CP or Bestiality pr0n or you will be b&.
  • Feeling social? Enjoy forums? Join here.

New article note

You've been doing a fine job at editing, but one thing to keep in mind: when you make new articles such as William Hague‎, you should always start them in your user space to prevent ED from being filled with unfinished articles. Then when its finished, just ask an editor to move it for you

As for William Hague, there isn't rule that articles must be created in the userspace, the bureaucrats have stated that numerous times. In fact, almost every article on ED is created in the mainspace. If you still want me to move it to your userspace that's fine but you're more than welcome to work in the mainspace. While editor status gives you a some extra privileges, it isn't really a security role. Keeping an eye on recent changes is a good thing but for the most part it is business as usual. Thank you for your encouragement. Have been away. It's nice to know I'm writing things that people find interesting, but I don't want to stand accused of "taking it all too seriously". Please batter me into submission if you detect any sign of such a mentality developing. I'd like to re-embark by writing an article about the Conservative Party's ubertroll Enoch Powell, which has the potential to be quite inflammatory. My question though: Is he still 'current' enough (outside of far-right splinter-group ideologies) to warrant ED immortalisation?

Also, I like the template, but the way it reads left to right appears to indicate that Fairbridge came before Yewtree, when the reverse was the case. A minor point, but it irritates my sense of order. Can it be changed? Will check back in a day or two. Sidecar 16:37, 12 April 2014 (EDT)

What's happening is you're hitting Save Page after every single pipe/sentence that you add, so we end up with a ton of "Royal Family" edits while scanning Recent Changes for anything possibly needing admin attention. It's really not that hard to use the button. Now that you're a sysop I'll clue you in on some basics that aren't quite readily available.

  1. Only delete images if they violate policy, such as CP, bestiality, dox, and so on. Keep duplicate images and things like that because people hotlink them and the backlinks are good for SEO.
  2. We tend to have a fairly strong anti-deletionist stance. Generally, you should refrain from deleting articles unless it's something like a few sentences and has no worth whatsoever. If something is actually a full article and you believe deletion is merited, raise the issue in the TJC for sysops to come to a consensus. Whatever the case, however, only delete articles that have existed for at least a week, to give the creator time to improve it.
  3. This one should be pretty obvious, but we limit bans to spammers, vandals, and people who make legal threats. If it isn't worth a permanent ban, it isn't worth banning. Of course, some sysops like to fuck with other sysops in a friendly way by banning them, since sysops can unban themselves. This is fine so long as you don't start a banning war.

Doxxing from Mikemikev

Is there any chance you can delete the address put by Mikemikev on the Oliver D. Smith brothers ED article? I don't believe innocent family members should be mentioned on ED articles such as peoples parents or where they live they are nothing to do with ED. Mikemikev said he took that information from a public website, but he didn't. That information is not openly online anywhere. There is no conclusive proof Oliver D. smith lives at that address, but even if it is his current address posting the dox of innocent family members is breaking laws and unacceptable. You can post as much nasty or evil stuff against trolls at ED but doxxing of innocent family members who have no involvement is not pleasant who could potentially ruin someones life. Public records have never been dox. Dox refers strictly to information that has heretofore remained unknown and private. That said there's really not much of a policy on dox now as people are, apparently, being told to use their judgment about whether to include it. It's not much of a surprise, given that the policy has historically been selectively enforced. That being the case I really don't care what happens to the article, but know that reverting crats is generally seen as bad form and most would not take to it as kindly as I have.

When you mass-upload images related to a subject, I suggest you open up 5~10 tabs of the upload file page, then type in XXX-XXX_ as a format to paste and fill in the rest of the info. Then when you're done uploading all the pics, delete the images from your drive, and add the files uploaded into notepad so you can just edit all of the pics into the page at once instead of having to wait for the page to load all over again each time. - (Al Gore) 22:13, 22 April 2017 (EDT)
