Talk:TV Tropes

From Encyclopedia Dramatica

A user named "Suicidetwins" or something like that re-did the TV Tropes page about a month before ED1.0 was sold out. Here's the cache and the raw html dump of said cache, in case you want to incorporate missing info. Hyperion09 22:56, 16 April 2011 (UTC)

Some Guy's History of TVTropes

Just found this blog: very detailed history of TVTropes controversies -- renames, purges, those sort of thing. Any TVTropes Oldfags who have actually lived through these dramas want to do an ED-writeup? (I was only in TVTropes for 4 short months before I turned away in disgust) --TroperFag 12:02, 27 April 2011 (UTC)

That blog is complete shit. It just consists of disconnected anecdotes not explaining anything – not even how Tv Tropes technically works. --Nujen 04:47, 15 January 2014 (EST)

"Oh, won't somebody please think of the poor pedos?"

Some guy who is openly pedo cries and spergs on their forum about being oppressed by The Escapist, because they banned him for being a sick fuck. And none of the users in the thread calls him out on his creepy shit, not even the moderator, as they are all busy being concerned about the fact that he is breaking site rules by "importing drama". There are no words.--Roshad101 22:39, 26 May 2011 (UTC)

  • I have added this link under "The Creepy Fuck". Indeed I've chosen to rewrite that paragraph: TV Tropes doesn't really "draw the line" at pedophilia; if not for GoogleAds they will be more than happy to accommodate them. TroperFag 13:54, 28 May 2011 (UTC)
  • Oh fuck, the TV Tropes forum is a downright pedo-club. Seeing their arguing how Loli is not child porn makes me want to puke. TroperFag 17:11, 12 June 2011 (UTC)

Gave the "needless" notice a vacation

Anyway the "Everyone Else" section says pretty much the same thing.

This article needs less unfunny vanity name dropping and tedious butthurt over how Fast Eddie banned your faggot ass.

Great job

This page has improved a lot since the last time I visited it. Great job gaiz!! ChaosAkita 04:21, 17 August 2011 (UTC)

  • That's just because Eddie and Co keep on thinking ways to fuck up the site even further. New flash: they tore down Troper Tales -- and made a subforum that melds Troper Tales and Trope Discussion. What the fuck are they thinking?! TroperFag 03:00, 18 August 2011 (UTC)

Fast Eddie's Purge

Oh boy, guys. Fast Eddie has pulled his biggest bullshit yet. Recently he decided to make a big policy change: Nothing remotely "pornographic" is allowed on the site anymore (because he wants the site to be more "family friendly", and because its supposedly upsetting google adsense people, or some shit like that). This has resulted in him purging pages for many fanfics, films, and anime which have graphic sex in them, regardless of their artistic merit. Oh, and Lolita. You know, the classic novel. He deleted it for being "pedoshit". He's also deleted numerous articles for being "creepy", including ones that don't actually have much to do with sex, but rather misconceptions. He's locked all the deleted pages (sometimes even replacing them with a huge banner saying "WE DO NOT WANT A PAGE ON THIS TOPIC.", as well as blocking access to the discussion pages. The best part? Most tropers, or at least those active in the forums, support it. Of course, you'll see in those discussions many thumped posts, as those posters disagreed. Perhaps the biggest suck-up is a troper by the title of Martello (which is hilarious, because his profile indicates he's sex obsessed, though also a homophobic reblicunt). These forum sections just suck fast eddie's cock dry.

My point it, this article should point out all this ridiculous bullshit. I'm just to lazy to do it (and haven't properly read over Editing 101, sooo).

On a side note, I'm almost finished writing a trollfic about "Alice and Bob" and trope-tan, in the style of Celebrian. I hope the people on tvtropes see it when I post it.  — Preceding comment added by Fuyutsuki (talkcontribs), who is too much of a fucking retard to sign their own posts. Someone with a lot of time on their hands needs to start cache dumping before the "Pedo Hunt" is over

Pages declared "pornographic" are getting hosed left and right, and even though most of this is merely getting blanked (with the history of the page still accessible so saving the previous records are possible to reconstitute the material), a few pages have been completely fucking wiped out by Fast Eraser (like the Lotte No Omacha page or whatever the fuck it was called).

Anyway, this shit needs saved quick, before what little lulzy material tropers could come up with (and I say this as a disgruntled troper who wants the moralcunts to quit fucking with the shit that was vaguely entertaining) dies forever, so if anyone has some spare time, some copy pasta skills, and some storage space, we need an archive of this shit quick before the "Pedo Purge" is fully realized.  — Preceding comment added by Rms (talkcontribs), who is too much of a fucking retard to sign their own posts. If I remember from a few links on here to other forums someone's already on that. Hilariously they apparently smacked down the Fate/Stay Night page for a while. Guess how long that stayed gone for. MightyKombat 07:08, 20 June 2012 (EDT)

Removed criticism

I moved criticism here from the main page. This is because it contains no examples and I couldn't find some myself. I did not want to remove it entirely though, because I wanted to keep it for historical reasons. --Nujen 09:29, 31 December 2013 (EST)

I, as a long time TV Tropes lurker (since summer 2009), do not recognize the criticism. It becomes even more vague when there are no concrete example of such. --Nujen 09:35, 31 December 2013 (EST)

  • Even ignoring the animu bullshit, most works mentioned will be derivative, committee-designed genre bullshit and other shallow fanboy bait nobody will give a fuck about in a few years. Who cares about the book that some argue started the American Civil War when you can read more about Spiderman shotting web in issue 472?
  • Articles are often named after an example from an editor's favorite work to the detriment of anyone that isn't a fan getting it. A subset of these are character-named articles where they pretend that their favorite character is a cultural icon on the level of Batman or Darth Vader that everyone is imitating. Since good characters are going to have a lot more to them than any one trope or role, these always turn into arguments over what the page is actually about once they inevitably get brought up in Trope Repair Shop.
  • In order to increase their SEO ranking and lure others into their pit of depth and despair, TvTropes takes advantage of the shitload of even shittier movies and wannabe TV shows to make over-glorified articles not only loaded with weak humor but thousands of links to other equally shitty pages.
  • People adding more and more shit to the description of a trope which distracts from the original point. This is typical of people that either think their cultural analysis of the trope isn't a bunch of bullshit nobody cares about or they want to (dis)qualify their favorite "example" that really isn't an example in the first place.
  • Many examples either don't fit or require lots of justification through meaningless buzzwords such as "subverted" and "from a certain point of view". This same kind of waffling is used by butthurt fans that don't want to admit their favorite work is a cliched piece of shit and thus need to come up with some reason why the use of a trope was some genius "deconstruction" or other oh-so-witty social commentary rather than the writer cribbing notes off somebody else.
  • Lots of irrelevant, off-topic bullshit creeps into these articles because a lot of editors don't seem to understand that it's a wiki where you can edit any and all of the text and instead start conversations using bullet points. Some types of this cancer include factual corrections (why correct the original example's number of penises that fit in the schoolgirl's ass when you can write "actually, there were sixteen, not fourteen"?), detailing why it's not a real example (instead of just deleting it), or taking the opportunity to talk about how the work raped their childhood.
  • Finally, the bottom of each trope page has a " In Real Life" section that is almost invariably terrible because the aspies that like that shit don't hold it up to the same rigorous standards as the rest of the site. These usually drift pretty far away from the specifics of the trope into nationalistic chest-thumping, political bickering, and soapboxing as each new example gets added. These typically grow to cancerous sizes until they get surgically removed and some chemo is applied by putting an ugly banner saying "NO REAL LIFE EXAMPLES".
  • If the work in question is something that no decent human being likes, provided it hasn't yet received Fast Eddie's signature mass delete and page lock treatment, it will typically get an excessively NPOV summary followed by an anti-lulz incarnate disclaimer telling the haters to shove it.

About my recent edit

Fellow ED-ers, do you think ED should have the "Pokémon Black & White the movie" page? It is a REAL example of Entry Pimp and I DEFINITELY think it should be put on this site. Instrument of God is published now, so that's not a good example anymore. This page talks about a nonexistent work that was Entry Pimped, and it is a great example of what we're describing. To add to the "shill" factor, the troper who wrote it was 11 years old at the time. PM an admin asking if ED should have the page, its subpages, and the wicks to it, put on it. (Ironeye, Fighteer, and SatoshiiBakura know about it.) To reiterate, the page detailed a fake movie and is a perfect example of Entry Pimping. (Be sure to ask for the version of the main page that was edited March 7, 2014.) It could be called "TV Tropes/Deleted Pokémon Movie Article" or something like that. Oh, and don't worry, the creator is not going to find this site and sockpuppet to put it back on TVT - I heard she's staying away from anything TVT-related now. Nanananana6 15:52, 27 March 2015 (EDT)
