Noinclude

So I tried using this. See Wikipedia:WP:Noinclude. I thought this would disable the page from displaying when people type {{Kittens}} on people's talk pages without having to delete this page, but that doesn't appear to be the case when I tried a preview. Does anyone know why this doesn't work and how it can be accomplished? When people spam this on pages it is very difficult to revert the vandalism since the edit button isn't accessible. Ty-cmeal 02:23, 23 January 2012 (CET)

That's intentional, and nothing to do with this article. Maybe if you ask nicely I can revert what somebody else did. Mike the Græt (Talk) 02:26, 23 January 2012 (CET)
The issue is that {{Kittens}} points to Template:Kittens and you only altered this page. However, it did work, seeing as {{:Kittens}} now does nothing when transcluded. Additionally, kittens is an ED classic so plz don't fuck with it, just remove it from said talk page if you need to edit/view it. 02:34, 23 January 2012 (CET)
I want the page to remain viewable, but I don't see why we should be using it to destroy other pages. We basically set up an easy to use weapon which is a hassle to remove.

Here you go

  • Add ?action=edit or ?action=history to the end of the page's URL.
  • If you're using ?action=edit, make sure the "Show preview on first edit" box in Special:Preferences isn't checked.
  • If you're using ?action=history in order to view the diff, then make sure that the "Do not show page content below diffs" box in Special:Preferences is checked.

I tried that before and it actually doesn't work by itself JT. You also have to add "index.php?title=" between ".ch/" and the article's title. If you don't believe me, try clicking this, it doesn't work. Instead it tries to take you to Kittens&action=edit.

Only this works for some reason. It's that whole 2-tier thing which makes casual browsing/editing so disrupted by the thing, buttons generally are easier since the edit button adds the index.php and stuff for us. Do we gain so much from using Kittens to annoy spammers (why not just ban? It's more annoying) that it's worthwhile to put a universally applicable tool in the hands of everyone?

I mean yeah, if some IP comes along and puts kittens on your page, you'll ban them, but they've still wasted your time, and if they managed to do it to a lot of pages before leaving, that's a lot of wasted time. Seeing it get used in bickering between users is like meh, it's been happening for years. It used to be fresh, now it's like, I want to keep the page for the memory of how it was used on old ED, but I'd hoped we would evolve past it and find cleverer ways to annoy each other (like wordplay).

Show preview on first edit's no prob, I think that comes unchecked by default (though I'm glad you prompted me to look at preferences, I just unchecked "Show edit toolbar (requires JavaScript)" which does come checked by default. I hate that thing, I prefer doing formatting code manually and sometimes I accidentally click the icons and insert shit I don't want into a page.

"Do not show page content below diffs" comes unchecked by default though, so this could be valuable. Actually, rereading it a couple times until it sinks in what this does... this box is awesome, I am checking it now. This is going to save me a lot of usage while browsing diffs, thank you JT. • Am I the only one who thinks all this change is asinine? I mean anybody who can visit the talk on a page with it's talk covered by kittens can SURELY edit their own bloody pages, right? This whole drama is only a response to Ty's own page being covered in kittens. Maybe it should just redirect to butthurt. Nobody gave a shit until it effected them. Mike the Græt (Talk) 05:19, 23 January 2012 (CET)
No, you are not. I don't know what you guys are trying to prove but revert it. THE WHOLE FUCKING POINT of this template is to make it more difficult to get out of it. You are fucking the whole thing up. Put it back.--zaiger (talk) 04:24, 23 January 2012
Oh nevermind it already is reverted--zaiger (talk) 05:29, 23 January 2012 (CET)
Was it actually changed? When I did a preview of using embedded Kittens after adding noinclude, it still worked as usual, so I thought nowiki was ineffective. Did it actually do something in contrast to what I observed? I can view the diff without having to actually view the contents (thanks again JT).
I'm trying to figure out: Zaiger when you asked me to change it back, had you confirmed that it actually had an effect? Someone said something about {{Kittens}} still working as spam but {{:Kittens}} wasn't. This made no sense to me because adding the colon is supposed to deactivate stuff like images/categories/templates anyway, so I think :Kittens wouldn't have worked even prior to adding nowiki.  — Preceding comment added by Tyciol (talkcontribs), 04:34, 23 January 2012
Template:Kittens redirects to Template:Pain, not Kittens; that's why your revision didn't affect pages with {{Kittens}} while affecting pages with {{:Kittens}}. --JuniusThaddeus 14:39, 23 January 2012 (CET)
  • LOL TY IS STILL MAD ABOUT GETTING KITTENS'D, FUCK YOU, YOU TOTALLY DESERVED IT, FAGGOT! Sketch 05:23, 23 January 2012 (CET)
I dislike kittensing in general. The whole reason you did that to my user page to begin with was because I was objecting to your doing it elsewhere. Tymec 05:34, 23 January 2012 (CET)

Tyciol, http://encyclopediadramatica.ch/Kittens?action=edit and http://encyclopediadramatica.ch/Kittens?action=history work for me, but I'm sure that you've seen enough ED URL's in order to figure out how to manipulate them. --JuniusThaddeus 14:42, 23 January 2012 (CET)

Oh, I see now, you were using an ampersand (&action=edit) instead of a question mark (?action=edit). --JuniusThaddeus 14:45, 23 January 2012 (CET)

Cool!

Bait-and-switch trolling got 20% cooler! I am DEFINITELY using this Kittens page for trolling by disguising the URL as something else! --HEYEVERYBODY 23:31, 28 July 2013 (EDT)
