Misfits

Jump to navigation Jump to search

The Misfits (officially, "Misfits") are a legendary horror-punk band that have been pushing their music on unsuspecting public and shocking "NORPS" for over forty years, across numerous (and increasingly less popular) band-member-lineups. With songs featuring lyrical content from baby killing ("Last Caress") to cheesy horror movies (most of the songs from the Graves era of the band) and eventually somewhat kiddie fare horror punk under co-founder Jerry Only's fronted lineup of the band, the band has continually put out 2edgy4me but somehow-still-good music to spook you and annoy your parents. In recent years, after a sharp decline in the band-members lineup, Glenn Danzig and Doyle (Doyle Wolfgang Von Frankenstein) have rejoined the lineup and the band has begun basically robbing their fans by doing only one or two reunion shows a year with highway-robbery-priced tickets. Still, it's a start in returning to their glory days.

Glenn Danzig era

"We deal in horror and horror accessories" huehuehue

At the beginning of the band's existence Glenn Danzig was the frontman. Many of the song lyrics focused on super-cool stuff like hyperviolence and horror themes, but the songs weren't necessarily entirely focused on horror at the time.

A lot of Misfits self-proclaimed "real fans" will get butthurt when anyone mentions the post-Danzig eras of the Misfits, and will throw a shitfit about how "the only time Misfits were good" was under Danzig. An easy way to troll "hardcore" punks is to praise the band's post-Danzig output, especially the Jerry Only era. Try telling them "how much you like Misfits' The Devil's Rain album!!!"

Michale Graves era

In '95 Jerry Only and Doyle managed to get the rights to the Misfits brand name from Glenn Danzig, and held auditions for a new singer. Some argue Jerry only wanted the money from the band name. Michale Graves was chosen from the auditions as the new band frontman.

"Fuck it, we (all) quit"

In 2000, after going in and out of the lineup (Myke Hideous replaced him at one point), Michale Graves decided to ragequit the band. Unfortunately for Jerry, not only did Graves quit - he and the drummer ("Dr. Chud") both walked offstage during a fucking concert. Not less than half a year later, Doyle quit doing guitar for the band after he and Jerry got into arguments about who would be the new singer. Jerry subsequently brought famous punkrockers Dez Cadena (ex-Black Flag) and drummer Marky Ramone (ex-Ramones) into the band lineup to keep people paying for the Misfits concert shows. Though, some would argue that Jerry Only was just trying to keep the legacy of the band going for the fans.

Michale Graves and Infowars drama

In late 2018 ex-Misfits frontman Michale Graves had some already-sold-out shows cancelled after SJW music festival organizers noticed Graves was pushing Alex Jones and Paul Joseph Watson videos on his social media. This was after several years of him doing this and nearly a decade after Graves came out as a conservative. Srsly. A shitshow endued afterwards with Infowars' Paul Joseph Watson even weighing in on the drama in an attempt to stay relevant after the 2018 Infowars Internet Purge. It was followed by Graves going on the Alex Jones Show which only fucking made things worse for him....

Jerry Only era

Left to right: Eric Arce, Jerry Only, and Dez Cadena.

As mentioned before, cofounder Jerry Only decided to continue with the Misfits... Jerry decided to keep adding members to the increasingly-lower-quality band lineup. Following the model of Ringo Starr's "All-Starr Band", Jerry constantly added new punk rock band members as the other new ones subsequently would quit. At times, cofounders Jerry and Glenn Danzig would pitch pissfits and file LOLSUITS over the Misfits trademark against each other. Jerry also enforces the trademark of Misfits so it won't be surprising if this ED article gets B& soon despite being satire.

During this time, Jerry Only also has made several comments about "Danzig needs to find Jesus and get Baptized" among other lulzy things.

"The Original Misfits" era

Mid-2016 forward money grabbing reunion lineup with Doyle and Glenn Danzig back in the performing lineup, and no new Misfits releases under said lineup to date. Sad! One would think they would at least try to bring back one of their drummers i.e. Dr. Chud or Robo but they went the cheapass route and just got random people to drum instead.

It's a well known FACT that 85% of the ppl who wear Misfits' "skull logo" ("Crimson Ghost/"the Misfits Fiend") or Misfits band logo shirts are posers who have never listened to the Misfits. Most of them also shop at Hot Topic in the current year, where they likely bought their Misfits shirt. At least Jerry Only's and possibly Glenn Danzig's pockets are being filled.

Selected Songs

There are wayyyy too many Misfits songs to list here, and in fact it's amazing that Jerry Only Misfits Records hasn't released a "Greatest Hits" cd yet as a cash grab. Since JewTube and the copyright holders won't allow half the Misfits songs on YouTube to be embedded on external sites, we here at ED have selected several songs and linked them below the videos for your pleasure. (Many of the below embedded videos are inferior live/concert versions and the ones linked in the list below it are studio versions)
