I Hace Donated!

I gave a $100...hrmmm, I wonder if I can consider it to be a tax write off as a "campaign contribution". LOL

--Onideus 20:49, 5 June 2011 (UTC)
  • If you gave $100 why does it still say $0 --SailorBitch 05:46, 7 June 2011 (UTC)
  • Probably cause they haven't bothered to update it. I know quite a few people have donated already and I know one person in particular who did a $75 donation, so it's just not updated yet. They don't have it setup to automatically change when a person donates, rather they've got it setup so that they have to manually change it, which they'll probably do at some point here soon, possibly on a weekly or eventually on a daily basis. --Onideus 05:53, 7 June 2011 (UTC)

I'm not donating a single penny

It's funny. ED always complains about how jews are money-grabbing cunts,
and now you're asking for money? Damn kikes. - Another n00b 19:30, 6 November 2011 (CET)

lol ur an idiot. How exactly do you think ED stays in operation? ED is 100% paid for by donations. Do you see any ads? Do you think that hosting a website that gets almost 100,000 visitors a day is free? We aren't asking for money to buy a fucking boat, we just need to pay the server bills. I most certainly am not going to pay for it out of my pocket so that ungrateful cocks like you can use the site. It is either ads or donations, and we would rather not have ads. --zaiger (talk) 17:36, 22 November 2011 (CET)

LIES. i have had many websites, with unlimited bandwidth and file hosting size, for less then 100$ per year. keep believing the fucking lies these jews tell you. besides, worlds ending this year anyways. start buying gieger counters in case you survive the worldwide fire bath, not donating to websites that cost a few hundred $ at the most to run.Tetradigm 04:08, 17 January 2012 (CET)

It is $600 a month for our 2 sites, 8 servers, IRC, load balancers and VPS's. We are very open with our expenses. Who is the jew here? LOL --zaiger (talk) 04:12, 17 January 2012 (CET)
Also LOL at "unlimited bandwidth and file hosting size" Sorry bro but we don't use Dreamhost, we actual have real servers, which cost real money. Did you have a good chanukah?

PFFT. 600$ a month? time to stop being idiots with your hosting plans then. i suggest you actually shop around on your web hosts next time. youll save massive amounts of money.as for servers, heres an idea: stop renting a server and actually -make- one. its very cheap and easy. fucking nub sacks. btw nice job with the "offended" edit. real original. exactly why i stopped coming here, no good OC anymore. copy/paste the same bullshit over and over. yeah that will make people donate.Tetradigm 17:14, 17 January 2012 (CET)

hahaha so much butthurt. We do shop around. Our content violats the TOS of 99% of hosts, so we have to take what we can get. For someone who claims to be a master webmaster you sure are dumb as a box of rocks. Websites cost money, especially when your website is as offensive as ours is. Sorry but if you want to host your sites on a Pentium 3 in your mom's basement that is your decision. Us, we would rather use real equipment in a real data center with support. Also lol at "exactly why i stopped coming here" You are here now crying about our bills. lol what a dumbass. --zaiger (talk) 21:30, 17 January 2012 (CET)

thats funny, i dont see anywhere that i claimed to be a "master webmaster". this website is not very offensive. the only things it violates. is if your dumbasses are offering illegal information, in which case it should be removed regardless. stop trying to convince people to throw you money. "oh noone will host us so we get shit hosting" yeah, thats not how it works. unless you are doing illegal shit. otherwise you are just scamming idiots.Tetradigm 20:12, 18 January 2012 (CET)

More butthurt and assumptions, cry some more baby. We have gone through more than half a dozen hosts since April. You imply to know everything about websites, servers and costs, so yeah my statement stands. We have not made a single penny off of ED, all the money from donations goes directly to pay ED's bills, and most of the time we end up paying for it out of our own pockets because nobody donated. ED.ch is a NONPROFIT website idiot, and I work my ass off FOR FREE to make sure that the money is there every month to pay our bills so the site stays up for you ungrateful pieces of shit. You have no idea what you are talking about so just stop talking k ^__^ --zaiger (talk) 20:26, 18 January 2012 (CET)

Personally, i rly miss dem pr0n ads from old ED. You should consider re-inventing them imho. --Buttseks 19:42, 22 November 2011 (CET)

naw thanks I didn't like those porno ads, kinda disturbing. Thats ok, people will just use adblocker anyways. DeupityNick 19:20, 26 November 2011 (CET)

donating

I'm donating some of my cum... hope you admins put it to good use. --Nothingofvaluewaslost 11:14, 21 November 2011 (CET)

Security

You'd get more donations if the primary donation method wasn't some little javascript form in the middle of a page. I realise you don't want to use jewpal and such because of jewish money withholding over silly drama, but there definitely needs to be something.

We have to do it like that for security reasons. If someone doesn't want to use the form then they can speak to one of us and send it Paypal/Google checkout/Snail mail/etc. We have a lot of different ways of accepting donations. --zaiger (talk) 17:45, 22 November 2011 (CET)
What I ended up doing was buying some retarded forum privileges that I don't give a shit about. My biggest gripe is not being able to see the URL and other details very easily for that main form. Sorry if I don't take ED's word for it when it says 'It's SSL, honest', especially given that there's probably a few articles on how to commit credit card fraud on ED.
Sorry but we have to do it this way. We have gone through half a dozen card processing services since April because people send bogus TOS reports in on us. --zaiger (talk) 22:59, 22 November 2011 (CET)
Can you email me about snail-mail options to donate if that option is still available?K00k00 06:08, 27 November 2011 (CET)

IMHO you guys should go back to ads, makes things slower but they help pay for things and also give the site a nice internet-y feel, if you know what I mean. I purchased a t-shirt from the old site....that's my contribution to ED's existence.---Jawsuswalks 05:27, 30 November 2011 (CET)

The problem is finding (trustworthy) advertisers that will stick with us. The t-shirt thing has also been brought up and might happen sometime soon. 05:29, 30 November 2011 (CET)
I agree. --zaiger (talk) 07:00, 30 November 2011 (CET)

Down To $350

I could only donate $50, got a bunch of unforeseen expenses that suddenly hit me. It's too bad all the money I gave Ryan is effectively lost...no doubt paying for his legal fees now.
*rolls eyes*

FYI, if anyone is worried about entering bank account information on ED there ~are~ other options. Places like QuickCash and other such outfits offer reloadable Visa and Master debit cards. So you just load the amount you want to donate onto the card and then that way even if the card was stolen they wouldn't actually be able to get anything. Your "real" accounts would all be safe. The fees are real cheap too, the one I got only charges $2 per transaction. That's a bargain for being able to have piece of mind when paying for stuff online. --Onideus 18:48, 1 December 2011 (CET)

I take that back, the transaction fee for donating to ED was only ~one~ dollar with the NetSpend reloadable Visa card I've got, so it's only ~half~ the price of regular in-store transactions. --Onideus 19:07, 1 December 2011 (CET)
Forget teh linky dink: https://www.netspend.com/
I got mine from a local QuickCash dealer, but I'm pretty sure they have them at all those Check Into Cash places. Also, ~avoid~ those Visa gift cards like they sell in Safeway, they ~used~ to be real good, but they suddenly stopped supporting foreign banks and likewise started actively discriminating/blacklisting specific business types they didn't like, which was a real jackass thing to do. You can however use the gift cards ~through~ PayPal as a kind of middle man, just transfer the money from the gift card into your PayPal account and then once it's transferred to PayPal you can then transfer it to ED. A bit more of a pain in the butt though than the reloadable debit cards. One last note, a lot of those gift cards, like the ones that Wal-Mart sells, they will *NOT* work for online transactions ~at all~, so be aware of that. --Onideus 19:20, 1 December 2011 (CET)

Not truly PCI compliant

The claim of full PCI compliance is false. For it to be 100% PCI compliant, the form itself has to be in a fully SSL-encrypted environment (see the PCI DSS v2.0, Requirement 4.1: Use strong cryptography and security protocols (for example, SSL/TLS, IPSEC, SSH, etc.) to safeguard sensitive cardholder data during transmission over open, public networks.). Having a Javascript form with no way of verifying where it goes, or whether it's really going to a secure site does not make it compliant, and would fail an audit. I know this because I have had to prepare networks and sites for PCI compliance as part of my job, and have to ensure any network component (down to a firewall) passes compliance on a quarterly basis --Rippercj69 05:55, 6 December 2011 (CET)

It is SSL moron. The transaction happens through the widget, not on the page. --zaiger (talk) 06:13, 21 December 2011 (CET)
You're the fucking moron here... I've done dozens of these audits for customers who have failed audits because they did something like what you're doing here, and you can also talk to someone who is an expert in the PCI DSS, which I quoted. The full page where the widget resides has to be on full SSL, not just the widget... no exceptions. If you want to ban me because I'm right, then so be it. --Rippercj69 23:21, 26 December 2011 (CET)
I'm not going to ban you just because you are wrong, I am not that petty. --zaiger (talk) 00:47, 27 December 2011 (CET)

2

first, with all these advertising campaigns people are forgetting about donating. and in second place, WE NEED SSL, rly. º_º 03:02, 21 December 2011 (CET)

It is SSL faggot. The transaction is not happening on ED, and who says people aren't donating? I didn't realize that you were our accountant. --zaiger (talk) 06:15, 21 December 2011 (CET)
Looks up. Hey, look at that, wow, ~somebody~ took the bother to explain how to donate using disposable debit cards in the event that you're incredibly paranoid! WOW! Boy that sure is handy...well, for people who can READ I suppose. Reading is teh harud! *nods* --Onideus 06:22, 21 December 2011 (CET)
That is a good idea.
Also, I will see if someone can work with the API on the donations portal. We were trying to help you assholes to be anonymous by not requiring names etc but if all you are going to do is complain then whatever have it your way. --zaiger (talk) 06:33, 21 December 2011 (CET)

SSL

I just bought an SSL certificate so the whole site will have SSL within the next day or so, maybe sooner, maybe longer, but soon. --zaiger (talk) 20:31, 2 February 2012 (EST)

server upkeep is inexpensive, get a shared hosting or something. stop begging for money. any donation is going to owners of the website. ED is for profit. You have no idea what you are talking about. Garrett 20:25, 14 March 2012 (EDT)
Dear retard (a.k.a. fatgingerkid), did you know that ED uses Load Balancers and fucking tons of Caching Engines?, CloudFlare + Varnish + MediaWiki's Built-in + Load Balancers + Lots of Reverse Proxies + et cetera. ED is not only ONE VPS, for sure.   Snape    talk    contribs   20:28, 14 March 2012 (EDT)
It's 2 dedi's and 5 smaller virtual servers.--zaiger (talk) 21:41, 14 March 2012 (EDT)
ED on a shared server? lol. That would last for like 4 days. Keeping ED online is a full-time unpaid job. It needs to be self sustaining and pay for itself somehow. We put money into ED, we don't get any money back. ur dumb. --zaiger (talk) 21:37, 14 March 2012 (EDT)

well I have my own mediawiki on some server but I'll see how it is necessary for that much of caching on some servers, instead of one server only. If you have a dedicated server, the ram iteself can hold all of the website amirite? ed archive takes 2.5 gigs only, well if extracted, maybe 3-4 but still, a server could have 4+gigs of memory. your passion about managing this thing is nice, though. Thanks FatGingerKid 22:33, 14 March 2012 (EDT)

The ED archive is text. The actual site is well over 100 GB, not including the forum. Also I am sure your MediaWiki install doesn't get 50 requests per second. --zaiger (talk) 15:24, 15 March 2012 (EDT)
ED can't work on a shared server for the same reason none of my stuff works on a shared server anymore...because a shared server is a DDoS target waiting to happen. The attack last September on my stuff for example was so massive it actually wiped out an entire data center! And before anyone says something about CloudFlare...no, that'll stop baby shit level attacks in most situations, but for high level attacks you need a dedicated server with at least some minimal DDoS mitigation hardware/software. And most hosting providers don't like taking on "high risk" clients.
There *ARE* ways you can use shared hosting to your advantage...as far as splitting apart a site's content, which is good in a number of different ways, especially in that DDoS attacks don't work so well because suddenly they'll have a dozen different targets instead of just one to deal with. It's very similar in a lot of ways to how CloudFlare works. You can save a lot of money that way too and it trips up most of the retards trying to get your site taken down.
That said, it's UBER complicated...and it doesn't always work that well. FaceBook and other uber high level sites actually ~have~ to use setups like that...and, even for sites like FaceBook they continually and constantly have to deal with screw ups and bugs related to the form, especially database synchronization issues, which is one of the most complex and difficult to manage aspects of such a form.
ED can't really work that way though I'm afraid...not without completely rewriting most of its base code. ED is built off of Media Wiki...a rather bloated, backwards little bitch and not very well put together, it was *NOT* designed to be split apart across multiple servers and would require some incredibly extensive reprogramming just ~try~ and make it work that way. --Onideus 05:29, 7 June 2012 (EDT)
