Feels Good Man/Pepe

As I posted on its talk page, what do you guys think about moving Feels good man to Pepe? The title already is against our page name guidelines due to the non-capitalization of every word, and I think Pepe more accurately describes the memeS that Pepe belong to than one old meme. He still can't edit anything. I guess he tried to change his e-mail address but it's not sending the e-mail to his new address. He said he checked his spam folder too, so I'm guessing he's using a mail.com account or one of the other ones that's auto-blocked. My guess is maybe some of the e-mail providers are auto-deleting the messages without even bothering to go into a person's spam folder... maybe. Anyway, he still can't get in, so I'm not sure what to tell him. Is this something that can be fixed? --Onideus 19:24, 22 October 2016 (EDT)

The only thing I can think of is maybe he needs to clear his cache file or cookies or soemthing first, like maybe when he tried confirming it, it just goes back to whatever e-mail he tried first (I'm presuming a mail.com account). Well, anyway, I gave him the login to the account I just made so he can just use that if all else fails. --Onideus 21:15, 22 October 2016 (EDT)

A crazy white woman is threatening to "puruse further actions"

Have been in contact with some people here and have been told that publishing someones name without there permission is illegal and their are actions that can and will be taken if my name is not removed from all of the pages where you are stated as an editor. You have 24 hours to remove the articles and/or my full name from them before I puruse further actions, this includes the images of the quotes that are on the ED page. If after this period my name is attached to any of your articles/edits you will be held accountable.

—A crazy white woman

I wasn't aware that including someone's name in an article and linking to their Facebook was "illegal". Wat do? — GirlOnInternet 11:32, 24 October 2016 (EDT)

Tell her to pursue traffic on the nearest freeway. Seeing as she's crazy, she just might do it. Vermin    11:39, 24 October 2016 (EDT)
Do not plaster their name on the article even more. That's the last thing. Especially writing it in the title is literally the worst thing you could ever do. Imagine if she googled her name, and the first thing that came up was ED? Do not do this. Do make sure that images do not contain her name; writing it in the description is bad and should be avoided at all cost. Likewise with the alt function on images. Having her name there would be criminal. CobaltCat 12:03, 24 October 2016 (EDT)
What article is she mad about? This egregious breach of ED's ethics must be investigated. Talk 16:14, 24 October 2016 (EDT)

Ah, then she must be the one who made these edits the other day trying to change someone's name. I should go back and ban her for vandalism. Talk 17:43, 24 October 2016 (EDT)
Lol, she didnt specify what article ••General Niggerson Page me. 21:01, 24 October 2016 (EDT)

This is apparently a semi-recent trend amongst SJWs, where they claim that just saying a person's name is a form of attack/violence/murder/etc. It mostly got started with transgender nutballs as a thinly veiled excuse to try and force people into using their made-up crazy name and has since spread further...

The inmates really are running the asylum these days I'm afraid. ಠ_ಠ --Onideus 23:12, 24 October 2016 (EDT)

PoisonIvyLul

It looks like Cobalt took a break from his unused image sorting to find us internet gold.

This article is front page material imo. It's about a 17-year-old girl from New Zealand who meets socially awkward, beta virgins in online games, and then baits them into making fan signs for her. She then coaxes then into doing sexually humiliating acts for her on cam, such as sticking things up their rectums, and then tries her hardest to get them to kill themselves for her "in the name of love." Seeing as they're weaker, inexperienced men, she often succeeds.

I'll add more to it later when I can, but anyone who can find more information and add to this article is encouraged to do so.  VERMIN  08:23, 26 October 2016 (EDT)

You might not use it, but I find it useful. It's a big help when the AotN needs to be set. — GirlOnInternet 15:55, 26 October 2016 (EDT)
If viewers used it frequently, it would never change, because it's generated based on view count. Not adding 15 links to the front page isn't going to hinder editor use, either. There's simply no reason whatsoever to change it. Mike the Great (talk) 20:34, 26 October 2016 (EDT)
Also for the record, that's just my opinion. You should probably do whatever you feel like as one of like 3 people who edit regularly. Mike the Great (talk) 03:18, 27 October 2016 (EDT)

It's handy to see if a 3rd party source has linked to or mentioned an ED article, because when they do it'll cause that article's page count to spike. Not so sure that's really useful for everyone in general though. --Onideus 08:51, 27 October 2016 (EDT)

"Click 'add' to close window"

Just WTF is going on with this ad that appears in a new window and holds your computer hostage, with a looped robot voice demanding that you download something, and you can't even fucking close down the browser? I take it that this is a legit ad, but it's like being held at gunpoint, and the only way to kill it is to physically turn your machine off at the switch. Worse still, if you try to restore session when you restart, the ad reappears and does it all over again! If this is some paying advertiser, may I be the first to say 'give them a refund and tell them to fuck right off'? Sidecar 19:45, 27 October 2016 (EDT)

  • AdBlock is the only solution. Get it nao! Krade 22:16, 27 October 2016 (EDT)
Meh, I've nothing against ads, if they provide income, but the thing I'm describing is way beyond any concept of acceptable advertising. Even worse, it is clear from the way it attempts to force you to download whatever-it-is that whatever-it-is is something that no-one in their right mind would download of their own free will. Am I the only one who has encountered this 'attack ad'? Sidecar 13:12, 29 October 2016 (EDT)
  • I think the term you're looking for is intrusive advertising. Attack advertising is totally different. And there is an option in AdBlock to block intrusive ads, while still allowing the non-intrusive ones to show, as counter-intuitive as it may seem. Krade 21:14, 29 October 2016 (EDT)
Actually I think this particular form falls under "ransomware"... basically hijacks your system to a degree and demands you do something to make it stop. You can use ad-blockers and the like to prevent it from doing that, but it doesn't change the underlying nature of what it is. If you prevent a criminal from breaking into your house... they're still very much a criminal who very much attempted to do so. --Onideus 00:15, 30 October 2016 (EDT)
Nnnngggg...IDGAF what it's called, either of you! Point is, it makes a very hostile impression when it comes up, the download is probably as desirable as nuclear AIDS, and presumably someone has paid $$$ to put it here. If we're all agreed that it's behaving the way we're discussing, shouldn't we kick the advertiser to the kerb? Perhaps this is none of my business, but it seems to me that with ED's reputation it's the sort of thing likely to drive readers away immediately (if they can escape it once it seizes their puter!) and will get discussed with other potential readers. Sidecar 20:13, 30 October 2016 (EDT)
It's either deal with pushy advertisers or default on the server bills. Love won't pay the rent. Uberfukken 20:17, 30 October 2016 (EDT)
No, there is another option, one which I considered when my own server was still up. That is... remove search engine hot linking to image content... text is fine... but prevent image hot-linking on search engines (third party linking would be fine). Based on my own server (when it was up), that'll cut the needed bandwidth down to around 1/4th its present rate...
The gray area there is Google. I would presume the stats are pretty much identical since ED's image content is basically just a smaller, fragmented rendition of my data archive. I think at present around 20,0000 or so images, or roughly one fifth of a percent. --Onideus 21:35, 30 October 2016 (EDT)
Do yourself a favor and look up cloudflare caching. Uberfukken 22:08, 30 October 2016 (EDT)
Not sure if you've noticed or not, but cloudflare doesn't actually cache much. Like recently when the image server crashed, even on a brand new article like Wage Gap, only around 10% of the images still showed up as a result of Cloudflare and even then mostly just the thumbnails. And on older articles it was effectively zero. Cloudflare generally won't cache something UNTIL it's accessed and even then it has extremely poor retention times. Meaning it can potentially cut down on repeated access to the SAME image, but not to different images. Does that make sense? --Onideus 22:25, 30 October 2016 (EDT)

Smugglypuff For AotN

Just finished this up (mostly), but I'm wondering if it should replace/bump Wage Gap for the 29th/30th or whether we should wait for the story to stew/spread a bit... or is it better to churn out mainstream media related articles as quickly as possible? The article already racked up 500 hits just as I was making it. --Onideus 11:42, 28 October 2016 (EDT)

It's your AOTN. Mike the Great (talk) 16:00, 28 October 2016 (EDT)
Yeah, but which is better? Should it be featured sooner or later? If it's later I'll have more time to add in and make some gallery images and so forth, as well as do some more research on their past/Internet history... but on the flip side it might be less relevant in a week or two. --Onideus 12:16, 28 October 2016 (EDT)
Smuggly probably won't be relevant for as long as the "wage gap" will. — GirlOnInternet 12:12, 28 October 2016 (EDT)
So probably better to swap them then. --Onideus 12:16, 28 October 2016 (EDT)

Okay, I swapped them. Prioritizing relevancy over content expansion. --Onideus 12:31, 28 October 2016 (EDT)

I think you made the right choice to feature Smugglypuff first. And might I add, what excellent research and writing went into that one. I was actually about to propose the same idea for PoisonIvyLul, seeing as she's already netted 3,500 page views, or at least get her featured in the next open spot.  VERMIN  15:06, 28 October 2016 (EDT)
Probably best to stick that in the spot that Wage Gap is in now and then bump Wage Gap to the next spot. Wage Gap I think pretty well works any time as an AotN. --Your Doctor 15:23, 28 October 2016 (EDT)
