Template Redundancy

  • We got like six of the same templates. The "An hero" series template has a "High Score" section. But we also have a "High Score" template. We also have an "Education" template that has a list of all the school shooters and spree killers that are already in the other two. But now we also have a "Murder" template with all the same names and today someone added a "Psychopath" template that has all those same names again! Oh, and we also have a "Terrorist" template that has a lot of those name again including those of people who aren't terrorists but just regular school shooters.
THAT'S SIX FUCKING TEMPLATES WITH THE SAME FUCKING LIST OF NAMES!
We need to talk about this but every time I bring it up people tell me not to delete templates. But this has gotten too far. At some point we are going to have to get over not wanting to remove content or someone's hard work because, if we don't, we will just keep having more and more variations of per-existing series templates being added every six months. already have three templates about hacking and soon enough I bet someone will also copy all the school shooters into the gun control template so that we have seven fucking templates about them.
I say - DELETE the murder template and DELETE the new psychopath template. REMOVE some of the names from the terrorist template and REMOVE the entire "high score" section from the an hero template. The high score template is comprehensive enough. There is no need for 2 more templates about the exact same thing (murder, psychopaths) with two similar templates (education, terrorist) with most of the same names and one more (an hero) with a section that has all of the names.
Can I get a fucking green light on this? oddguy 15:40, 22 July 2014 (EDT)
Go for it. If you need help just drop me a note I got a couple days off. reply 15:51, 22 July 2014 (EDT)
Heh, again with this? Personally I'd be more concerned with adding and improving content instead of removing it, but hey. If it bothers ya that much, then yeah, go for it. But be prepared to remove every red link from every page of whatever template ya delete, because I'll much sooner restore the deleted template before I clean up after ya.  Sickpuppy  00:55, 23 July 2014 (EDT)
You don't even know what you're deleting before wanting to delete it. You saw a new template was created, sperged like fuck, and promptly began wanking in your own greasy tears wanting to jump into action reverting my work. Like over half the shit in that template was uncategorized or untemplated. The terrorists section of it is going to be replaced with something else. Oh and lets not forget the murder template was already blanked by yours truly. oh hey but you didnt know any of this because you didnt bother reading the motherfucking talkpage before jumping to conclusions. Don't you dare fuck with my psychopaths template. It needs improvement, not assmad blanking
Hi

Nothing wrong with variety, or even redundancy. Revs are cheap. These templates harm nothing, and I'd like to think we aren't maintaining a sperg wiki.  VX  07:52, 23 July 2014 (EDT)
  • I don't really understand what you think I am mad about, but let's stay on topic. I still think there is a problem of redundancy with the templates. At least some of this needs to go. I saw you guys deleted the "Murder" template which is as step in the right direction. And I think it's funny because I actually suggested deleting it the moment it was made, so to some degree you already agree with me. Also, I actually did read the talk page, which is why I added the "Terrorist" template to my list which I didn't actually think fit but it seemes like some of you guys did.
Anyway, the new template and the "High Score" template still seem to me like the same thing and I think one of them should just be deleted (as well as the "High Score" section within the "An Hero" template). Nonetheless, I actually didn't delete anything and instead wrote about it here so we could try to reach a consensus.
As for the question of why I think this is a problem, I just think it looks ugly (and kind of stupid) to have some articles finished off by a footlong pole of colorful templates all of which are about the same thing. For example, the Cho article can have all the following templates at the end of it: Education, An Hero, Terrorist, Psycopath, Murder, High Score. All of which are just the same list of school shootings/killing sprees. I think that this is a problem and that there should be just one template that covers all of this. However, if no one agrees, as you can see I haven't done anything yet.
So what do you people think, which (if any) of the templates should go? oddguy 14:05, 23 July 2014 (EDT)
I refer ya to VX's comment above: "Nothing wrong with variety." We'll use yer example of the Cho article: it fits the Education template because it happened at a school, it fits the An Hero category because the guy killed himself afterward (not all murderers do and thus don't all fall into this one), it fits the Psychopaths one for obvious reasons, and it fits the High Score one cus he had a body count.
Now if I *had* to choose one to amend, I'd pull everyone outta the Terrorists template who isn't Middle East-related.  Sickpuppy  14:31, 23 July 2014 (EDT)
  • Yeah, but isn't everybody in the high score template a psycopath? oddguy 14:43, 23 July 2014 (EDT)
Not everything on the high scores template is a person, and it doesnt include fictional characters or people with undetermined kills, and of course we're allowed to add other categories to psychopaths. I mean, we are allowed to do that right? Last time I checked we run this site and decide whats right

Oddy, I see what yer saying, but it's honestly not worth getting all OCD over. If we did away with all the similar templates and just made one big "Murderers and Psychopaths" one, it would remove all the diversity that's involved in the subjects, ie school-related (Education), An Hero or not, did they kill anyone (High Scores) or were they just psychotic (Psychopaths), were they Terrorists or just off their meds, etc etc. Diversity is a good thing, especially when it comes to diverse topics like psychosis and murder.

A few points, if I may.
  1. Deletionism is cancer.
  2. It's better to have overlapping templates than a single, monotonous one on dozens upon dozens of articles.
  3. If there truly is a problem, rework it, don't remove it. Perhaps limit it to the truly psychopathic, like Lanza and Holmes, rather than those who killed for political or religious reasons, such as Breivik, Hitler, and bin Laden?
  4. Deletionism is cancer.

Hi

  • Well, the useles Murder template is gone and you guys say you're gonna make some changes to the Terrorist template so I guess that's good enough. But I think I should still remove the "High score" section from the "An Hero" template and just mix all the names in it with the rest of it since there already is a "High Score" template. oddguy 10:47, 25 July 2014 (EDT)
Yesh, good riddance to the Murder template. As fer the "going for the high score" section of the An Heroes template... not all an heroes killed people before they killed themselves, so it's useful to have it there to differentiate the diversity of the subject.  Sickpuppy  11:01, 25 July 2014 (EDT)

Dailymotion vid embeds

The Happy Days video is not playing in the gallery for the An hero article. Which is strange because I checked a few days ago and it was playing perfectly. Yet now it won't play in the gallery. There doesn't seem to be anything wrong with the code itself. What's going on? Boudica 10:28, 24 July 2014 (EDT)

It works fine, you dumb slut. Dailyfuckton was probably just being retarded. Or you disabled flash. Or you used a shitty browser. CobaltCat 10:59, 24 July 2014 (EDT)
