We need to rethink this website

The work of restoration has been magnific, but we have only got 1/3 of the pre-shut down traffic, and I'm worried this site is becoming too static, with less and less new articles, good editors, and more and more forgotten articles. I think we should think ways to make this site more dynamic, like Know Your Meme has done. I'm thinking of events or contests that would make more people participate and check regularly for updates. Some of my ideas include:

  1. Remember Old articles featured in the main page refreshed at least once a week.
  2. Contests Invite people to go to an article and post some defined stuff, like weird photos, videos, quotes, etc.

I agree, the site seems deserted mostly, not totally sure contests would work. I'm guessing the rewards would be notoriety like becoming an EDitor or what? .ch is the top result in google, and seeing as we have money constraints I doubt we could advertise much more than we are(are we even advertising the site at all? I don't remember ED.com ever advertising). ED.com was popular just by word of mouth. However I do agree we need to switch something up as .ch has been stagnant besides very popular articles. We don't want to be the worlds biggest website. We have a ton of users, the site is far from deserted. The wiki itself gets a shit load of pageviews. There is no need to panic. We don't have ads and aren't a for profit site so it's not like we need to get views and adclicks to survive. Honestly good riddance, the community is way better now than it ever was. You guys don't even know how bad it was before, having to work on a site to make someone else a living. Basically the old ED admins were slaves, working so the owner didn't have to. There is none of that bullshit here, we do this because we want to, because it is fun. Don't worry about volume, this isn't a dick showing contest. I agree that the wiki is fairly stagnant compared to old ED, but it's nowhere near even a mini-crisis. It's edited more often than WikiFur, to say the least. Although contests wouldn't be a bad idea, if only to give a greater sense of community and even status--awards, maybe an ED email address, based off of things like humor or amount of images/pages restored could give an idea of who's a good EDiot without making everyone a sysop. Yeah I agree, I see what Zaiger means and i am glad that this has become a bit smaller-however I see a lot of users on here who are great editors and never get noticed, but the sysops are always busy fixing articles and portals, so I can see why. The idea of the constests came to me when I noticed that a considerable amount of people knew of this website because of the Offended page, so monothematic image, quote, etc compilation pages in which anyone can post more pictures without a definitive end seems a good idea to me. Just a suggestion but i personally think the first thing that needs to be done is fixing that disgusting article about ED on Wikipedia. It's nothing but old crap anyway, Site status is "inactive" and it's mostly about the lulzcow that originally abandoned it. Suggestion, What about linking forum and wiki accounts with some kind of badge system and making up some hard-to-get badges (a la Escapist forums?) like badges for shit like '50 wiki edits' or '10 articles created'? It's just an idea but it'd be nice... give the EDiots in us a sense of accomplishment for doing something constructive. Could give em out for annual stuff too like 'Logged in on zaiger's birthday and sent him a message of trolling abuse 2012'... I'm thinking tho'. Wouldn't achievements cause a massive amount of trying too hard? The first thing that comes in mind is TF2 where everyone fucks the game (the little that there is) when new achievements come out and goes to achievement servers to obtain these. ED badges like "50 edits" would cause people to make moar edits, ok, but also retarded edits just to fill their counter that need to be reverted afterwards. Or e.g a userpage views badge. People would just hitfake that shit. And what if in the end people would concentrate more on getting the badges and not on making valuable edits? My bad, I meant to say text files listing all the former pages and images, not users. There is a .txt called users, but it doesn't have any info in it.
I took a good long look through it (As good as my ghetto computer would allow), and all it seems to have is a complete rip of all the pages and redirects, as well as all the images. The pages have a completely non-wiki layout and are missing the pictures themselves, but we could definitely use them to rewrite some replacement articles and then just use our best judgment to put the images where they should go. People put a lot of work into those pages before The Anti-Lulcalypse, and this way it at least doesn't go to waste. Most importantly, is there a way to upload a mass number of pictures at once? Template:4chanarchive needs updating

The 4chanarchive template will need updating, as they have moved to chanarchive,the old site (4chanarchive) will remain up chanarchive/faq, however it will no longer accept submissions.

As all the old content has now been migrated to the new site, updating this template to work with the new site would be a good idea, so that we can link to new threads.

Actually, I don't see a point of changing it. As of now it works. That new page seems to only serve as a mirror. Not to mention, the new site uses a different URL for pages, so simply changing the template would break it.

Noooooo man. Video hosting is really expensive (looking and bandwidth especially) and there's a reason why only YouTube, Veoh, and really big news sites come to mind when you think "streaming video." The best alternative to streaming video would be setting up some kind of torrent tracker or using something like MediaFire, things that don't use up site bandwidth. Sometimes an article is needed to drive a kook over the edge. They may only be mildly interesting at first, but once you make an article about them they may suddenly blow up into doing all sorts of incredibly kooky shit, which can then be added to the article. In a way it's almost like forcing/trolling them to create their own article. Ideally though it would be better to start out sand boxing the article and then ~if~ they kook out, then make a genuine article out of it. Also DYOFDW applies, a ~blatant~ attack article is when one or more people are begging ~others~ for an article, so long as they're doing their own fucking dirty work though there shouldn't be a problem...unless the article just sits and festers for months on end with no change and no good content. Attack articles shouldn't automatically be removed anyway though. Technically my own article is an attack article when you get right down to it, but that doesn't make it any less hilarious. In fact a lot of the blatant attack articles are some of the most hilarious ones to read, just seeing how far people will go to try and "get back" at someone.
