A Mary Sue is the end result of someone becoming so obsessed with being part of an nonexistent universe that they simply had to make a character that they can project themselves on to be part of said universe. However, the character always ends up being an overcompensated, overly-perfect wish-fulfillment of the author, inflicting nothing but his or her own arrogance.
