The silliest thing of all is that all sides avoid noticing what they can't categorize: the legal child porn. Commons has stuff by Wilhelm von Gloeden [1] and Wilhelm von Plueschow [2] - naked kids the photographers slept with. But, people weren't so sanctimoniously moral about this back in the Victorian era - if you got busted for soliciting kids, you did a few months in jail and they booted you out of the country, not three years like Beta M, and you got to keep the photos. Even Mussolini's courts found von Gloeden's heir innocent of pornography charges. So the thing is, now, Commons has this "kiddie porn" which passes the Miller test, because it has great artistic and historical importance. The ACLU has been unwilling to argue that child porn can pass the Miller test, but there it is. And the FBI was called in by Larry Sanger, they must have gone over the servers, they must have seen that stuff, and apparently they agree - not a problem.

Someday, this last bastion of censorship will fall. We'll finally decide that instead of letting mafiosos and child molesters make a few billion selling pictures of abused kids, we'll let the abused kids who survive to adulthood choose to distribute their pictures for profit if they want. (And, of course, there are always the kids who go sexting and so forth ... instead of prosecuting them as "child porn manufacturers", we can just tell them to wait until they're older before selling them - which option sounds crazy to you?) Maybe we could tax the stuff a little and use the money to actually try to research a cure for pedophilia, which I really doubt is that hard if you made any effort at all. The state of the Thumbnails.

As many of you have seen, a lot of issues regarding thumbnails of animated images and what not have been popping up all over. Either thumbnails would end up being a broken image, or you'd see an error from ImageMagick complaining. These issues should now be fixed. All of the broken thumbnails (that I could find) are in the process of being automatically rebuilt. Thumbnails may show up as broken still for the next few hours as their old copies expire in our loadbalancers and they have to fetch new ones from our backend. RSS FEED OF THE NOW

Can someone come up with a way to automate an RSS feed to update daily with the AOTN, POTN, QOTN and VOTN? There has to be a way, and I refuse to do it by hand every day because I know it won't end up getting done.
