DERP is a group of hackers (if you trust headlines) who are best friends with livestreamer and cam whore Phantom Lord (Powerword: James Varga...nice name). His username is PhantomL0rd (JVPhantomLord, FANtomL0rd) because the zero makes him 1337. What he didn't know, is that unlike most Internet badasses, this group actually puts their money where their mouth is. Nothing their comrade was spending way too much time indoors recently, the group decided him get outside and enjoy some fresh air for a change.

Dota 2

On December 20th, 2013 the Twitch streamer was earning his paycheck by playing Quake Live (yes, literally) while fans watched online. Showing their concern, DERP launched a DDoS attack, taking down the server and interrupting James' livestreaming session. On Twitter the crackers called out to him, who decided to test their skills by playing different games and joining different servers as everyone watched. While PhantomL0rd was playing a game of Dota 2, in what proved to be an epic troll move, DERP told James that if he lost the match, which he did, they could crash the server he was connected to, and it did go down. At this point, only someone who got meth fried chicken strips for a brain wouldn't take a hint. But JV felt an obligation to continue, he had a record 140,000 viewers connected to his stream, what he didn't know was that only 32,000 of those were not bots, seriously.

Pizza deliveries and hostages

Dead Pearl Harbor Japs were impressed was DERP announced on Twitter was server was going to be next before proceeding to take it went offline. Even as his real life information was posted online and at least four pizza delivery guys arrived at his door, James Varga still wouldn't back down. Twitch at this point was aware of the situation but didn't intervene by shutting down the livestreamer, probably because they wanted to publicity and advertising dollars from those 140,000 viewers. Proving DERP indeed found a lolcow, Phantom Lord continued playing even after it was hinted the authorities were on the way. It wasn't until he noticed police cars arriving at his place, responding to a possible hostage crisis, did he finally get off the damn computer. Thinking he was a smooth talking, he opened his door and attempted to explain this was an Internet prank, but instead he was greeted by semiautomatics as his place of residence was searched.
