The politician is an entity that has, over the course of several thousands of years of abuse, rightfully gained the distrust, and disrespect of the general populace. This status was put into combat during the late post-modern era with the popularization of the "honest politician". Clans like the Kennedys made a career advertising their families, and by extension "American values", throughout the ever-expanding media. Exactly what the population desired was a handsome face with no bullshit, anti-communist agendas, and a firm handshake. Give 60 years and the practice is still put into play. Decent looking men (because female politicians ruin themselves focusing on "the issues") parade their "humble upbringings" and "knowledge of the people" sided with prescriptions to amend faulted economies, clear out the prisons, and clean up the schools. Of course nobody buys this, nevertheless, they want to.
