Fund drive

ED is broke. Every month the ad check gets smaller and smaller due to adblocking and shit and it isn't covering the bills anymore. We need money in order to keep going and the only mode of payment we currently accept is bitcoins. We have to brainstorm ways to make some loot or else the site will be down by Christmas. --Mantequilla (talk) 15:38, 27 October 2013 (EDT)

oh shit, so we should disable adblock every time we enter ED? I'm ok with that.--milwinWanna get toasty :3 15:41, 27 October 2013 (EDT)

  • I have been trying everything from porn to clickbank and nothing seems to work. The traffic here is worthless. We need to do a donation drive to collect enough to keep us going for a few months, only problems are how to collect donations, and how to motivate people to get bitcoins. --Mantequilla (talk) 16:24, 27 October 2013 (EDT)
Draft checks. Donor submits routing/account information, you print the check from home. Call bank to verify account exists on each donation. Uberfukken 16:30, 27 October 2013 (EDT)
You can create an actual donation/fund bank account and then people can do direct deposits. Here's a quick guide on it:

Just go to one of your local banks and they'll get it all setup for you and everything. It's pretty easy all around. --Onideus 16:40, 27 October 2013 (EDT)

Extra sites

What about some extra sites? Sites that can use regular ads. For example if ED were to host my old Care Bear and Sprite Generator sites then Google ads could be put on them to generate money for the site. The sites themselves wouldn't make a real significant impact in ED's overall bandwidth usage and in turn could be used to generate a little bit of money. When I had them up they were generating around $200 a year...not a whole lot, but every little bit helps. They could likely generate even MORE money for the site via indirect advertisement. Basically have some ads on ED that redirect to the extra sites which in turn have more profitable Google ad banners...and no one will be able to complain since ED isn't the originating site.--Onideus 15:59, 27 October 2013 (EDT)

YT account partnership

We could also setup a group YouTube account to generate money. I've been purposefully ignoring all the spams they've been continuously sending me about becoming a "partner" and "making money" off my videos (several of which have been VotNs)...but many of those videos could be uploaded to a group account ~with~ partnership and in turn would generate a little bit of money for the site.--Onideus 15:59, 27 October 2013 (EDT)

Merchandise/Shop

There's also the t-shirt/merchandise idea, although it might be hard to find someone who will allow it, at least if we try using the stuff I make (most of which has been banned from Zazzle). Even my "share the bicycle trail" bumper sticker got recently banned. We could privately print through Zazzle though "on demand" so to speak. That way no one ~on~ Zazzle will actually be able to see the stuff (or complain) and we could then just print as needed (would add some extra shipping cost/time though). I've got a bunch of original designs already done and in vector format that could be used and I could easily make more. --Onideus 15:59, 27 October 2013 (EDT)
People will still complain to Google and to the companies that use Google's advertising services. --JuniusThaddeus 16:16, 27 October 2013 (EDT)
  • Merchandise, home brew, no middle man. -Uberfukken 16:05, 27 October 2013 (EDT)
ED could also make a little shop that sells clean digital OC. Think about it- they say you can't sell adult content, not that the clean content can't be funding an adult site. As long as what you sell is clean they can't touch you. Users could buy files so they could print their own bumperstickers, buttons, stickers and shirts. Designs that get bought a bunch can be turned into "ready to use" physical versions to sell straight out. Ejunkie looks promising for this. It isn't expensive, has many payment options and handles sending the downloads for you. --3tails 16:47, 28 October 2013 (EDT)

Money rather than bitcoins, ED-owned donation company

Russian Lurkmore solved this problem by accepting money rather than bitcoins and by accepting donation with money too. No bitcoins - no problems. ICAN 04:54, 28 October 2013 (EDT)
The problem with ED, from what I understand, is that people complain to the 50% of fundraising/donation companies who accept ED, and ED breaks the other 50%'s "Terms of Service"-- Talk to me|Contribs 23:21, 28 October 2013 (EDT)
Then why ED owners have not yet created their own fundraising/donation company? ICAN 02:54, 29 October 2013 (EDT)
That's actually a good idea. has Lurkmore.to done that?-- Talk to me|Contribs 07:32, 29 October 2013 (EDT)
I know I wouldn't mind an alternative to bitcoins. There's fundraising sites out there we could use as this site is clearly nonprofit. Crowdrise looks promising. Just keep all content clean on those sites and state outright that this is a satire wiki and things ought to be OK. Also remember to set goals low to assure you actually get the fundraiser completed. More is good, but not getting anything because you ran out of time is bad. The only one I really can't suggest is offbeatr which, though it allows adult content, has a really long process to get approved, takes an obscene chunk of the money and is run by assholes (I contacted tech support- I know firsthand). --3tails 16:47, 28 October 2013 (EDT)

Self-Serve ads?

How about allowing $20 self-serve ads? 4chan does that, and they have it so that 3000 views or something like that over a 30 period happen, randomly shown with other ads.-- Talk to me|Contribs 23:55, 28 October 2013 (EDT)

Generate our own bitcoins

I'm quite possibly talking out of my ass here, but humor my idiocy for a moment. Why not generate our own bitcoins via an ED mining pool? We're a bunch of neck-bearded nerds here, surely there's enough of us that we could combine the processing power of our computers to make at least some bitcoins? BakaRed 11:37, 29 October 2013 (EDT)
