Closed Species are a thing in the furfag community when someone makes an original species, but instead of sharing and/or growing the idea, they instead slap some traits onto a page, go to DeviantArt, make a group, then proceed to tell everyone about how they can only draw the species if they pay for it. Oh, and most closed species have "admin-only" traits, when only an admin of the closed species' group can use those traits. Oh, no! An indofag just told me that I can't draw their ultra rare water hybrid goddess crystal cat! It's almost as if they can't control anyone's creative freedom to draw whatever the fuck they want! Oh, the horror!

Origins

The ancestors of closed species were spotted in 2007 on DeviantArt when people began selling "adoptables". Same as the name, you pay from $5 to $500 to buy the rights to draw them. Closed species themselves began popping up in 2009 and 2010 when people began making dA groups and showing off their dragon-wolf-emo-dog-cat hybrid. But, here's the shocking part. Back then, closed species were, believe it or not, made for fun?! And were drawn by kids who didn't plan to make money off of them?! Shocking, innit? There was a downside though. The closed species back then had eye-raping designs.
