Welcome to what I'll tentatively call the Wikichan Restoration Project. Basically: there were tonnes of articles on .org and they're gone, but are archived and can be restored here. As these were originally stories from /b/, copypasta-ish and stuff, you can look at it as less of a tribute to WC and more of a "picking up where they left off/failed" type of thing. I was disappointed when WCA guy basically wouldn't give out the source, so it will be more troublesome to bring the data back.

Already we have existing articles on content that was hosted there prior to ever having ED articles on the old ED. This can be confirmed through wayback historical verifications. But anyway, the old category format should be kept simply because it's more organized that way. If it comes up that we have a cat title already used, we will leave those until later.

http://wikichan.org has been crawled 36 times going all the way back to January 7, 2007. apparently. I think it makes sense to star by going to the latest crawl since that would probably contain the most articles which have been most updated and categorized.

The Jan 7 2009 version is unusable as it had already been directed to WC. So going earlier is necessary. By going back bit by bit, this is the case for 2008's Dec28, Oct2, Jul31/1, Jun26 & May26 crawls.

May 13 differs as it included this message:

"Our host informed me that Wikichan is taking up an inordinate amount of CPU in normal operations, which may mean that we've been attacked recently, or otherwise we have some sort of bug (or just we've gotten fucking huge). In any case, I'm moving Wikichan to a buddies' server, and it will be online within the next week or so. Sorry for the trouble! - Wikisysop"

So, I don't know if that actually happened or not, clearly we have a gap in what happened, I do recall other messages, but yeah...

This makes April 13 2008 the last crawl where the wiki was actually up, so I propose that is what we use. Based on this, I will link the categories, and they in turn contain content. As some stories pertained to multiple categories, there will be some overlap, but it will give great guidelines.

Categories

The master list is here.

  • Category:*chans (this already exists on ED as Category:Chans so we don't need to mine it unless there's content not covered here)
  • Category:Boards (doesn't exist though is similar to chans) here

Must Reads

Stories

There were many subcategories of various topics, some of which I am going to add below. Many articles were about stories that were not actually placed in stories, but were placed in the other subcategories. Except for perfect, the other cats were not classified as subcats.

I didn't include everything, view the category master list for links to all pages that had categories. No clue on earth how to find uncategorized articles (they probably didn't matter) unless you want to see if WB scrolled user contribution histories or something. My guess is they only stuck to the more populated works.

Commentary

I'm going to update the above section as I think of stuff, feel free to create topics below. Ty 09:25, 25 August 2011 (UTC)
